Promoting affiliate products is a lot easier than creating your own products. With affiliate marketing, you can get right to marketing instead of worrying about product development. Here are the 6 best practices in affiliate marketing to consider before you begin.
1. Create Your Own Blog / Website –
First, it is vitally important you have a blog or website that is your home base to promote products from. Do not try to be involved in too many niches at a time. Instead focus on one niche website and / or blog in which to promote the right products for your audience. 2. Use the Product –
In most cases it is important that you use the products you promote. You want to know the product inside and out and able to talk about it intelligently. If you used and loved at least one product produced by the developer you can at least speak to the quality of the product. I prefer to use and love the products that I recommend to my audience.
3. Know Your Audience –
It is extremely important that you understand your audience enough to be able to recommend the right products to them. You should explain to them why the product that you are promoting is something they want to buy. If you can show and tell your audience how a product solves a problem for them and why, you will be much more successful.
4. Choose Quality Over Quantity –
When promoting affiliate products its best if you choose fewer products to promote than many. It can be confusing to your audience if your blog or website has too types of products to choose from. Promote each product until you are making money before moving on to the next.
5. Build a Targeted Email List –
The money is still in the email list. Social media, blogs, and all the other ways to sell products are additions to the email list. Everything you do should be designed to get your target audience to get on your email list where you can market to them more personally.
6. Build Trust with Your Audience –
The way you build trust is only to promote products you truly believe in that deliver what is promised. You will make more sales with repeat buyers than you will from onetime buyers. You can build a legion of fans that are ready to purchase the next product you promote.

How to Quickly Get Started with Affiliate Marketing
Have you wondered how to quickly start making money online as you transition from your 9-5 job? You probably do not have any products or services of your own at this early stage of your business. So, what are you to do? One solution to your problem is to promote the goods and services of other companies and earn a commission. This is called affiliate marketing. This episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series is about how to quickly get started with affiliate marketing.
(1) What is Affiliate Marketing?
First, you will need to understand the concept of affiliate marketing. So, what is affiliate marketing? Affiliate marketing is promoting the products or services of others. Typically, this occurs on your blog where you write useful and informative posts. Within the body of these blog posts you will place links to the products or services that you are discussing. If a reader clicks on a link and makes a purchase, you will earn a commission. As an affiliate marketer, you can also place advertisements for your chosen affiliate companies on their website. Again, if someone clicks on the ad and makes a purchase, you earn a commission.

(2) How to Make Money as an Affiliate?
The best way to succeed as an affiliate marketer is to choose a subject matter that is specific and interesting to you. The topic should also be relevant to your target audience. For example, if you love coffee and know a lot about it, you might choose to create a blog and write on that topic. Choose affiliate products that you believe in and are related to your niche. You have more credibility in promoting a product if you really believe in it. Show how the product or service has benefited you and your business. Write reviews, how-to posts, comparison charts and offer tips for your topic. For example, how to create a perfect cup of coffee. Where relevant, insert links to your affiliate sites. Remember to promote products and services that you know and love that are relevant to your target audience.
(3) Where to Find Affiliate Products to Promote?
It is important to get to know the people behind the products. After all, they are your business partners. Establish relationships with them. It could lead to other business opportunities.
One of my favorite business partners for affiliate marketing is Connie Ragen Green. I have known Connie for many years and have interviewed her on my podcast. I met her in Toronto, where she spoke to a large group of entrepreneurs about earning money on-line. Her presentation fascinated me and I sought her out to find out more about this fascinating area of entrepreneurship. Since that time, I have taken many of Connie’s courses and promote her courses to my clients. She is known as the “Queen of Affiliate Marketing,” having won many prizes for affiliate marketing. If you want to know more about getting started quickly with affiliate marketing, I highly recommend that you take her course, “Really Simple Affiliate Marketing.”

Creating affiliate niche sites is the focus of this episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series. This program continues the discussion of why and how affiliate marketing is a great way to build your online business. There are many ways to earn money online. One of the most lucrative ways is to become an affiliate marketer. As an affiliate marketer you promote other people's products, in exchange for a percentage of the sales price. You can promote these products and services through your:
- website
- blog
- social media accounts
- email.
What are Affiliate Niche Site?
An affiliate niche site is one of limited and narrow focus. It contains information that is useful and interesting to its readers. If your site visitors do not find the information interesting or helpful they will just move on. You promote products and services that are interest to people with this narrow focus. Think very carefully about the niche you work in. Start with a search on Google Keywords to see the number of searches for your particular idea. You want to make sure that your niche sites are narrow enough. For example, travel is a broad category. However, winter ski travel to the southern Alps, would be a niche.
Get Started Creating Affiliate Niche Sites
Affiliate niche sites are not generally related to your main website. You want your main site to be an authority site. However, you can create affiliate niche sites on unrelated topics. For example during the holiday season, you may want to create shopping guides for various types of gifts. The start up process for creating niche sites is straight forward:
- Buy a domain name.
- Use a hosting service. We use and recommend Bluehost.
- Set up your new domain as a subdomain on the hosting server.
- Install WordPress.
- Select a theme for your web site.
Once your web site is ready you can always hire a graphic designer create a logo for you. We also recommend that use private label rights (PLR) content to help provide some of the content pages for your niche web sites.

How to Select High Value Programs to Promote
It is important to select high value programs to promote, if you want success in affiliate marketing. First, you must determine whether your audience will find the program is of high value. Remember that perceived value is in the eye of your potential client. This article discusses the process that you should use to select high value affiliate programs to promote.
Key Questions to Consider in Selecting High Value Programs
Consider these three questions when selecting high value programs:
- What Does Your Audience Want to Buy?
- What Are Your Competitors Selling?
- What Problems Can You Solve for Your Audience?
After you have asked yourself these three questions, then conduct the research necessary to answer the questions. You can then use that information to start your search for affiliate programs to promote. As you discover products, you should buy them and use them first, before promoting to your clients. Try this approach whether it is a digital product or a physical product. It is important to have real experience with products that you want to promote.
Where to Find High Value Programs to Promote
You can find affiliate programs through networks like Commission Junction, or Clickbank.com. You can also find self-run affiliate programs where individuals promote their products using an affiliate program run through their shopping cart like Nanacast, 1shoppingcart.com, or Amember.com.
If you are currently using a program that you love, and that you think will work for your audience, then you can contact the product creator directly to find out if they have an affiliate program. Sometimes you can find a link to their affiliate program on their web site. Try looking in the footer. Some other terms used for affiliates are “partners,” “associates” and “resellers”.
When you find potential products to promote you want to also look at what the product creator offers affiliates in terms of
(1) commission,
(2) sales support, and
(3) how they perform at customer service.
Even though you will send your customer to their site to buy, the product creator will be providing customer service for the product, not you. Therefore, it is important to know how they handle client issues, problems, and returns.
Key Questions to Consider Before You Make Your Selection
- How much commission do you get for each sale?
Understanding how much you can make from each sale is important because it costs money and time to promote a product. If you are only going to make a dollar on each sale, it needs to cost you much less than a dollar to get that sale.
- When is, the commission paid and how?
All products pay different amounts in commission. Some programs have incentives for selling more products. The typical rate for a digital product is a lot higher than for a physical product. It is common to see 50 to 80 percent commission rates for digital products. You typically see only 20 percent or less for physical products.
- What happens if there are product returns?
Most of the time, if something is returned the affiliate is responsible for the money. That is why most affiliate programs pay out after the guarantee time. Other affiliate programs pay immediately. However, when a return happens you must pay back your commission. In those situations, therefore, it is wise not to spend your commission immediately.
- How are you permitted to market the products?
Some programs have many rules and regulations about how their products are marketed. Be sure to read the fine print so that you know to market their product following their rules.
- What tools (like graphics) does the creator offer its affiliates to help with marketing?
Many independent affiliate programs are run very professionally. They will offer art work, private label content that you can edit, and even webinars and other promotions to help you make the sale. Go with programs that offer more to their affiliates and you will be able to promote easier. Affiliate programs such as Lead Magnets offer great support for private label content.
Knowing the answers to these questions can help you determine if it is a product you want to take the time to promote. If the numbers do not work out, then you want to move on to another product.
Conclusion
Almost any person can earn money through affiliate marketing, if you promote high value programs. Answering several key questions will help you determine if the program that you are considering is high value to your audience. Remember that you must:
(1) have knowledge about the niche,
(2) understand your competition,
(3) choose the right products that solve problems for your audience at a price that the audience can afford and is willing to pay.
In just a couple of hours a day, you can build a business that can give you freedom you never thought possible.

Promoting Products and Services with Affiliate Marketing
This episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series is all about promoting products and services on the internet. This is sometimes called “affiliate marketing” or “partnering.” If you are interested in creating an income without having to produce and build your products and services, then you are in the right place. In less than 20 minutes we share with you a lucrative way to get started in your own online business with affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing is a great way to earn income as an on-line entrepreneur. With affiliate marketing you have a partner/team member who pays you a commission to recommend his products. This is a great stream of income. By mastering a few strategies for affiliate marketing you can quickly build (1) business income and (2) business team members. Here are three strategies for effective affiliate marketing.

1. Recommend Only What You Love
In affiliate marketing, you should recommend only those products and services that you have bought, used, and found helpful. You are much more credible in promoting a product if you really believe in it. It helps when you are bragging about someone’s product that you have actual experiences and results. I love bragging about Connie Ragen Green’s course on Affiliate Marketing. I have taken the course, read her books, and implemented her strategies in my business. Listen in as I interview Connie Ragen Green about how she became the “Queen of Affiliate Marketing.”
2. Recommend Digital Products and Services
Most affiliate marketing involves promoting digital products, services, or courses. That's basically what we do. Most of our affiliate marketing is done through either Nanacast or Clickbank. Nanacast and Clickbank are digital platforms where entrepreneurs showcase their digital products. We have accounts on both. You may also want to become an affiliate with Amazon. As an Amazon affiliate you gain access to the many digital and physical products available on that site. It is a thrill to earn an income based on your recommendations!
3. Get to Know Your Business Partners
In affiliate marketing you need to get to know the people behind the products that you recommend. These people are important team members. You should try to establish relationships with them. These relationships can lead to other business opportunities. You can establish relationships with them by commenting on posts and engaging in community forums. Attending live events is a great way to meet them. I know that you want to be an on-line entrepreneur! Sometimes, however, you have to leave the comfort of your computer. We attend several live events each year. We find live events helpful. The live events are helpful not only for the content. The events are helpful because of the personal connections that we make. We get a much better sense of the person’s character and personality. You can become a raving fan when you know someone personally. We first met Connie Ragen Green at a live event in Toronto, Canada. We later spent more time with her at live events in London, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. Now we are raving fans for her products and services.
