Determination and Drive to Succeed

The Entrepreneur’s Determination and Drive to Succeed

This episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series is “The Entrepreneur’s Determination and Drive to Succeed.” Have you ever wondered why some entrepreneurs achieve spectacular success and others fail?  The answer lies in their determination to succeed. Find out why determination is such an important characteristic of a successful entrepreneur. Also, learn how you can quickly cultivate the entrepreneur’s determination and drive to succeed in your business and in your life. Dexter and I have achieved success in several aspects of our lives from careers, businesses, and marriage. In this episode, we discuss three key strategies that we use that you can adopt to quickly achieve determination and drive to succeed.

What is Determination?

Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines determination as “firmness of purpose; resolve.” As an entrepreneur, your determination is daily tested in each challenge that you face. For example, when a potential client fails to show up for a scheduled meeting or you miss an important deadline, you may want to give up. You begin to wonder why you started the business. It is the strength of your purpose for your business that keeps you from giving up. Your resolve not to fail keeps you going when everyone and everything says that you will fail.

What is Your Purpose?

Your determination can wither without a big enough reason to continue. Your purpose must go beyond the desire for making money.  Do you remember the vision and desire that fueled your dream for your business? Was it the desire to serve certain clients? Was it a dream of sharing a topic or process with the world? Did you want to leave a legacy of success for family? When your determination starts to falter, you will need to remember your purpose. Your purpose will give you the courage, strength, and resolve to continue.

Do You Learn from Your Mistakes?

Your determination will wither if you do not learn from your mistakes. A successful entrepreneur does not quit when situations do not go exactly as planned. The determined entrepreneur will figure out what went wrong. Then she will adjust and adapt to the situation. Your ability to think, be flexible, and resilient will serve you over time. You cannot let your mistakes cause you to be psychologically devastated. The determined entrepreneur learns from her mistakes and keeps going. Her success is right around the corner.

Do You Focus on Strategic Actions?

Your determination will wither if you stay busy working in your business, but see no results. A successful entrepreneur will dig deep within herself and focus on what is most important to achieve success. The determined entrepreneur will figure out the tasks and activities that can be delegated to her team. Then she will act on the specific tasks that are strategic for her success. She will keep moving ahead. The determined entrepreneur understands the importance of taking one little step on a key priority. Then another step and another step to gain momentum. The successful entrepreneur understands the need to cultivate those habits of determination that will serve her well now and in the future.

Conclusion/Call to Action

The entrepreneur’s determination and drive to succeed makes the difference between success and failure. By following the three strategies discussed in this episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series you can quickly achieve the business success and lifestyle of your dreams. Remember to practice the following strategic habits:

  1. Remember Your Purpose
  2. Learn from Your Mistakes
  3. Focus on Strategic Actions

Armed with these strategic habits you can sharpen your inner resolve and quickly achieve the entrepreneur’s determination and drive to succeed.

How to Make Self Responsibility the Cornerstone of Your Success

How to Make Self Responsibilty the Cornerstone of Your Success

How to Make Self Responsibility the Cornerstone of Your Success

How to Make Self Responsibility the Cornerstone of Your Success

“If it is to be, it is up to me”

Acknowledging that you must make self responsibility the cornerstone of your success can be a daunting challenge. But, if you want to achieve extraordinary success in your business and in your life, you must make self responsibility the cornerstone.  It was certainly difficult for me to accept the truth of this concept. I wanted to blame someone else or something else for the deal that I lost or the client I did not get. But once I understood that I controlled my own destiny, I was ready to seize the opportunities that came my way. Remember, “There are no excuses!”

Other People are not Responsible for Your Success

I realize that there may be economic setbacks such as the Great Recession of 2008. Your suppliers may go out of business. Your virtual assistant may decide to quit. Although these circumstances may impact your business and your life, you must realize that they are beyond your control. You can however control how you react to these setbacks. You alone are responsible for the success of your business. Have you planned for these eventualities? Are you taking responsibility to meet the challenges of these circumstances?

Other People Probably are in Worse Circumstances than You

No matter how bad you think you have it, others probably have it even worse. So, stop crying and start taking responsibility for your success.
Here is a simple creed that is worth repeating throughout the day. It is especially helpful when you start to feel sorry for yourself:

“If it is to be, it is up to me.”

These ten simple two-letter words remind you that self responsibility is the cornerstone of success in achieving extraordinary results in your business and in your life.

Be Committed to Your Success

Once you decide to go into business, totally commit to it. There is no holding back. Jump in with both feet! Even more important than getting into business, is getting the business into you. You can indeed love your business and your life.

Make a commitment to yourself that you are going to succeed, no matter what. Remember to go the extra mile to achieve extraordinary success in your business and in your life.

Conclusion/Call to Action

Learn how to make self responsibility the cornerstone of your success in your business and in your life, if you want to achieve extraordinary success in your business and in your life. Remember: (1) other people are not responsible for your success; (2) other people are probably in worse circumstance than you; and (3) be committed to your success. Throughout the day repeat these ten simple two-letter words to remind yourself that self-responsibility is the cornerstone for achieving extraordinary success in your business and in your life.

“If it is to be, it is up to me.”

How to Find Your Inspiration: What is Your Why?

How to Find Your Inspiration: What is your Why?

How to Find Your Inspiration: What is Your Why?

How to Find Your Inspiration: What is Your Why?

To find your inspiration is the first step in achieving the goals that excite you. Only when you know your why will you find the courage and inspiration to start or to grow your business. Having the proper mindset is the key for the determination you will need to succeed. The German philosopher Frederick Nietzsche once said, “He who knows his why can endure any how.”

When you find your inspiration and know your why you will be able: (1) find the courage to take the risks needed to succeed; (2) stay motivated when you face setbacks; and (3) move your life into an entirely new, more challenging and rewarding direction.

When you first decided to start your business, you may have been thinking:

·       “I am tired of working in this terrible job.”

·       “I need to spend more time with my family.”

·       “This job just does not pay enough.”

These thoughts and others go through the mind of many people thinking about starting a business. But you will find, that these reasons will not be enough to sustain your motivation once you start your business.

These primarily negative thoughts will not inspire you:

 ·       To increase your skills;

·       To be brave and authentic in your marketing;

·       To find the courage to launch a new product or service;

·       To make your business thrive.

What is your why? What inspires and motivates you?

Is it Your Passion?

Many business owners are motivated by passion for a topic, a market, or a product. They would spend their entire day talking and learning about it. Whichever type of passion-based business owner you are, learning to harness that passion will help you elevate your business.

Is it Your Lifestyle?

Other business owners are inspired by the desire for the lifestyle that comes from owning their own business. Are you motivated by the freedom of having a lifestyle that allows you to travel or to drive beautiful cars? Whatever your big dream, you knew that you would never make it with your day job. There is nothing wrong with desiring a lifestyle that you find thrilling and fulfilling. Be sure to maintain your integrity and authenticity in pursuit of your dream lifestyle.

Is it Philanthropic?

Many business owners are inspired to go into business so that they can give more to charitable concerns. Are you motivated by a desire to give more to charities at home or abroad? Perhaps you want to have the freedom to volunteer with local hospitals, animal shelter, or churches.  If you have a heart for a cause, a philanthropic why can be the motivating cause that elevates your business.

Conclusion

In this episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Training Series we explored how to find your inspiration by focusing on your why. To find your own why, consider your biggest dreams. What brings joy and a sense of fulfillment into your life!

Is Your Money Mindset Keeping You Broke?

Is Your Money Mindset Keeping You Broke?

Is Your Money Mindset Keeping You Broke?

Is Your Money Mindset Keeping You Broke

Your money mindset is often the difference between prosperity and hardship. Do you realize that the stories that you tell yourself about money could be holding you back from the success that you desire?  This episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series looks at how your money mindset may be standing in the way of your prosperity and keeping you broke.

What is Your Money Story?

In this episode, we discuss two typical money stories that may be stopping your prosperity.  One money story is the “Doomed” story. In this story, you are cursed never to have any money because your entire family is cursed with bad luck when it comes to money. You are “the victim” of someone’s bad luck or bad deeds. Does this sound familiar?

The next money story that may be standing in the way of your prosperity is the “Evil Money” story. In this story, you tell yourself that having money is bad. You do not deserve the good things of life. You tell yourself repeatedly that money is evil. Does this sound familiar?

If you take a close look at that often misquoted verse (1Timothy 6:10) it says: “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.”  In context, the quote is about those who are tempted by riches and make foolish decisions that lead to their ruin. Unfortunately, some people may become so afraid of materialism, they often go the other way. They often create money stories that do not allow them to provide for their families’ basic needs.

Katherine Keller, in her insightful article in Entrepreneur magazine “5 Beliefs that Keep You Broke,” highlights how those beliefs may be keeping you from using your energy “towards creativity, peace, joy, happiness, the ability to solve problems, or to feel that [you] have control over [y]our [life].”

Create a Money Mindset that Brings You Prosperity!

The Truth About Money

Do you know the truth about money? Money is a tool. It is a tool that you can use to create the freedom to give. Money is a tool to give you freedom to help others when help is most needed. Instead of giving out of guilt, it is much more effective to give out of a feeling of empowerment. It is more effective to renew the well, so that the more you give, the more you receive. That is what creating a strong, positive financial story allows you to do.

Once you understand that money is a tool that you can use to shape your world, then you can begin to remove the blocks to your prosperity.

Changing Your Money Mindset

It does not matter which type of negative money mindset that you have. If it leaves you feeling financially fearful and disempowered, it is a money story you need to change.

Your money mindset will shape how you view your business and the decisions that you will make. Will you decide out of fear or out of power?

Listen to the podcast as we discuss the seven symptoms that show that you are prosperity blocked and doomed to stay broke if you do not change!

Finding the Highest Best Purpose for Your Life

Finding the Highest Best Purpose for Your Life

Finding the Highest Best Purpose for Your Life

Finding the Highest Best Purpose for Your Life

Finding the highest best purpose for your life sounds like a daunting task. Why would you even bother? Because you may be one of those persons who has dutifully done everything that you were told to do. You got good grades, a good education, and a good job. But now you feel like you are “living for the weekend.”

Where is the satisfaction, passion, and fun in your life and career?

I felt that way after many years working in a job that no longer challenged me or gave me joy. I had stayed there too long.

Like me, you may be thinking about leaving your 9-5 job. You may wonder “what do I do next.”  This article will discuss the first step that you can take that will lead you to finding the highest purpose for your life.

Imagine If…

Start by brainstorming what you would love to do, if money were no object. You have enough money to cover your expenses and some left over for fun. This is a list of possibilities. Do not filter yourself.

How would you spend your days, if you had the freedom to spend your days any way you wanted to?

Would you:

  • Shop?
  • Paint glorious watercolors?
  •  Go back to college and earn a degree in art history?
  • Travel the world?
  • Rescue animals?
  • Work with abused women?
  • Plant a garden?

If you get stuck, think about what you do on weekends and holidays. Nearly everyone looks forward to relaxing and enjoying their favorite activities after the workweek is done. What are the activities you most enjoy?

The purpose of this exercise is not to make a realistic list of business opportunities, but rather to make a list of possibilities, so do not censor yourself. Write down whatever pops into your head without considering if you can make money with it, whether you will love it forever, or even if you have the skills or talent for it.

That is, after all, what brainstorming is all about. Unfiltered ideas. We will sort them out later.

Conclusion/Call to Action

Take this exercise seriously. This is the first step to finding your highest best purpose for your life. During the next few days, I will share with you a few other actions that you can take to help bring you clarity about your purpose.

Leave us comment.

3 Mindset Habits of a Super-Successful Entrepreneur

Mindset Habits of Super-Succesful Entrepreneurs

Mindset Habits of Super-Successful Entrepreneurs

3 Mindset Habits of a Super-Successful Entrepreneur

What if you had the mindset habits of a super-successful entrepreneur? Do you want to know what sets the super-successful entrepreneur apart from the wannabe entrepreneur?

It is not money, or brilliant ideas, or even powerful friends.

These things (and more) are nice to have, but they are not a requirement of success. The right attitude is the requirement for success.  Without the proper mindset habits, you will constantly be battling your own brain. Now, that is exhausting!

Yes, Dexter and I are writing about mindset habits again. You may be tired of hearing about:

Negative People: How to Protect Yourself from Them

The Entrepreneur’s Mindset: Taking Time to Renew, Refresh, and Relax

Finding Time for Yourself: Finding “Me” Time

However, we know from experience that when you are battling your own brain:

You will allow yourself to believe that your ideas are no good

You will remain convinced that you are not smart enough

You will be certain that someone else did it (whatever “it” is) better

And before you know it, you will have talked yourself right out of launching your new program. You will talk yourself out of asking for a JV partnership, or writing your book. In no time at all, you will be back at your day job.

Without the proper mindset, you will find yourself working away on someone else’s business because you do not have the confidence to create your own.

But a simple shift in your mindset can make all the difference.  Therefore, we will continue to share with you tips about that have worked for us.  We want you to join us on this journey to freedom from a 9-5 job. We want you to have the freedom to travel, invest, and live the life of your dreams!  Therefore, make a few shifts in your mindset to achieve the kind of super-success that you want. Here are 3 mindset habits of a super-successful entrepreneur.

Mindset Habit #1:  Start Each Day With Gratitude

Choose to start your day grateful that you were given another chance to enjoy life and love. Your day will be so much better.

Or you could choose to be grumpy and irritable.

The choice is always yours. When you choose to wake up declaring aloud a few things you are grateful for, watch how this daily habit changes your day and your life.

Mindset Habit #2:  Dress for Success

When you work at home, it is easy to fall into a habit of wearing sweatpants and T-shirts to the office. After all, why dress up just for the dog?

But if you are looking for a quick and easy way to instantly shift your mindset in the right direction, ditch the sweatpants and (for the ladies) break out the lipstick.

You will suddenly find you feel more professional, more confident, and sexier, too. (That last one will not necessarily help your business, but it might just help your love life. that cannot hurt, can it?)

Mindset Habit #3:  Never Let Fear Drive Your Decisions

Too many would-be entrepreneurs operate with a scarcity mindset rather than approaching business from a place of abundance. Rather than telling yourself that you cannot afford to hire a virtual assistant or work with a coach, try reframing your thoughts.

Rather than thinking, “I cannot afford to attend that event,” ask yourself, “How can I earn the money to invest in this trip?”

Rather than saying, “I must do everything myself because I cannot afford to hire a VA,” remind yourself that your hourly rate potential is much more than you would pay a virtual assistant. Then fill those hours you are saving by outsourcing with money-making tasks of your own.

By reformatting your thoughts, you will turn that negative money talk into positive solutions that help you grow.

Conclusion/Call to Action

Take time to consider the suggestions in this article and start to incorporate them into your life. You will find that taking a few simple actions can elevate your life and your business. The proper mindset habits are key. Start making the shift today.

Remember to:

  • Start Each Day with Gratitude
  • Dress for Success
  • Never let Fear Drive Your Decisions

Leave a comment to let us know how you are shifting your mindset!

Healthy Lifestyle: 3 Choices You Can Make Today!

Healthy Lifestyle: 3 Choices You Can Make Today!

A healthy lifestyle is something that we all aspire to. Sometimes, however, we find that life gets in the way! As you end 2016, perhaps you can start moving in the right direction with our healthy lifestyle choices. Rather than waiting until January 1 for the new year, you can start today. By January 1, you would have gained momentum and be well on your way to becoming a more fit, healthy, and happy entrepreneur. Join me on this journey!

Here are 3 healthy lifestyle choices that you can begin including in your life today.

1. Include a Daily Exercise Routine

Never forget the importance of a daily exercise routine. Per a 2014 report of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, “exercise is the countermeasure for aging.” Keeping fit is your responsibility. You do not need 60 hours of cardio or to lift 200 pound weights. A simple power walk will suffice, but do it daily and stick to it. Consistency is the key! I enjoy taking a morning walk through neighborhood. When it gets too hot or too cold, I walk inside at the local mall. If you are serious about reversing the effects of aging and maintaining your muscle mass, you may want to include the stretching routines of Miranda Esmonde-White. You can follow Miranda’s routines in her book: “Aging Backwards: Reverse the Aging Process and Look 10 Years Younger in 30 Minutes a Day.”

2. Pay Attention to What You Eat

You only have one body. How you feed it is up to you. A happy body needs the proper nutrients for brain power and health. Avoid foods that only drag the body down. When you eat right, you feel great. To help you prepare your body for healthy food choices, you may first want to rid your body of toxins. I recommend the10-Day Green Smoothie Cleanse”, by JJ Smith. In her book, Smith emphasizes the importance of “taking control of your health by caring for your body by feeding it what it needs to be slim, healthy, and vibrant.”  The smoothies are delicious!

3. Start Your Day with Gratitude

You can choose to start your day grumpy and irritable or you can choose to start your day grateful that you were given another chance to enjoy a joyful, purposeful, loving life. The choice is always yours. Choose to wake up declaring a few things you are grateful for. Watch how this daily habit changes your day and your life. To help you understand the importance of starting your day with gratitude, read The Power of Intention,” by Dr. Wayne Dyer. Per Dr. Dyer, “Gratitude is a sacred space where you allow and know that a force greater than you is always at work and always available.”

Call to Action

Join me on this journey to create a healthy, joyful, and exciting life by making healthy lifestyle choices. We can begin today by making the three choices discussed above:

  • Include a daily exercise routine
  • Pay attention to what you eat
  • Start each day with gratitude

Then buy your three reference books to help you on your journey:

The Entrepreneur's Mindset

The Entrepreneur's Mindset

The Entrepreneur's Mindset: Taking Time to Renew, Refresh, and Relax

The entrepreneur's mindset is not all about hustling, bargaining, and jostling for market position. A key part of the entrepreneur's mindset is having the wisdom of knowing the importance of taking time to renew, refresh, and relax. You do not want burn out. Yes, it can be hectic and frantic launching a new business or a new product. Yes, you must have determination and persistence. But, to be productive over time, you must also learn the importance of finding time for yourself. You need to make time to renew, refresh and relax.  This episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series is all about this important topic.  We discuss why it is important to find time to:

  1. Renew
  2. Refresh
  3. Relax

We recorded this podcast live from our retreat aboard the lovely Celebrity Silhouette as we docked in Cozumel, Mexico.

1. A Time to Renew

During this podcast we discuss the importance of taking time away from your business. It is important to get new ideas, think of new products and services to offer your clients. You also need time away from the business to think of new ways to operate your business. You may discover new ways to offer an outstanding customer experience. As we have repeatedly emphasized on this podcast and on our blog your online business must be customer-focused.

2. A Time to Refresh

When you take time to refresh yourself, you can a new perspective. As an entrepreneur, you may be too involved in the day to day operations of your business. You may spend too much time working in your business, rather than on your business. You may develop a tunnel vision. Taking time away to refresh yourself may give you a broader perspective on your business, your life, and your future.

3. A Time to Relax

Although you have or want to have an online business, you do not need to stay online all of the time. Sometimes you need to unplug from the technology. Take a few deep breathes and remember why you wanted an online business. What are your hopes and dreams? What are you trying to accomplish for your family?  Why did you want out of the rat race? We know that we did not want to leave on job to create another one.  We wanted a different lifestyle! Part of that lifestyle is taking time to relax.  We enjoy traveling, meeting new people, and gaining new experiences.

Conclusion

A successful entrepreneur has the wisdom to know and understand the importance of taking time to renew, refresh, and relax. In this podcast we discuss the benefit's of this wise entrepreneur's mindset.

Let us hear from you. We would love to know how we can help you make your dreams, goals, and wishes of having a successful online business come true!

Negative People: How to Protect Yourself From Them

Negative People: How to Protect Yourself from Them

Negative People: Stay Away From Them

Negative People: Stay Away From Them

Negative people seem to be everywhere. They are always around to criticize you. The negative people are always ready to tell you that your dream is not possible. This episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series is all about dealing with the negative people in your life. We address how to handle their negative comments and lack of support. We also explore strategies to help you feel and think positively.

  1. Keep Positive People Close to You

If a negative person has made a nasty comment to you, shake it off. Then you need to call on a close friend. If that negative comment directly affects your mood, you could easily turn sour and bitter. Pretty soon your entire day has spiraled out of control. Rather than sulk and replay the negative comment over and over again in your mind, you should call a friend. Call that person who encourages you. Do not be ashamed of your bad mood. Grab your friend. Talk to them about the issue.  Then you need to let it go.

  2. Keep the Negative People Out of Your Bubble

Sometimes the negative people are your family members. So you may not be able to rid yourself of all the negative people in your life.  But you can keep them outside of your protective bubble. Your protective bubble is that mental space  where you keep your mind, soul, spirit, and dreams safe from the naysayers. Only your supporters are allowed inside the bubble. If you are still working, and operating your business part-time, you may have negative co-workers. You must learn to keep them at a distance. You can not afford to let their negative vibe into your bubble.

  3. Just Keep Smiling

Nothing upsets negative people as much as seeing you happy. So no matter how you may be feeling in the moment, let those haters know that they cannot get you down. Laugh if off. Smile at them.  Smiling releases serotonin. You will begin to feel better. It will lift your mood. You will begin to feel positive. To lift your mood even more, try playing some dance music. Pretty soon you will be dancing across the floor of your office.

Conclusion

Remember that there will always be haters around who are jealous of your success and envious of your desire to create a different lifestyle. You must protect yourself with your bubble. Surround yourself with positive people. And remember to keep smiling and dancing!

Determination: 3 – Part Strategy for Success

Determination: Don't Stop Now!

Determination: Don't Stop Now!

Determination: 3 – Part Strategy for Success

Determination is an important characteristic of a successful and prosperous entrepreneur or small business owner.

Determination is defined as, “firmness of purpose; resolve.”  As an entrepreneur or small business owner your determination is tested daily.

When your client does not show up for an appointment you wonder if it is it really worth it. If  your assistant forgets to give you an important message you wonder if one more thing could possibly go wrong!

But to be successful, you must show determination and remain firm in your desire for your business

This post discusses three key strategies that Dexter and I, and other successful entrepreneurs find to be helpful in maintaining our determination to succeed and prosper.

1. Remember Your Why

Determination can wither without a strong enough reason to continue.  As an entrepreneur or small business owner you must remind yourself of why are you in business.  You need to go beyond the surface reason:  To make money!

There are easier ways to make money than starting a business.  So dig deep and remember that vision you had for your business.  Remember the passion that you had for your clients that you wanted to serve.  Remember the legacy that you wanted to leave for your family.  When your determination starts to falter, you need to remember your WHY!  Your WHY will give you the courage, strength, and determination to continue.

2. Learn from Your Mistakes

You will need determination when you fail to deliver a product on time or your meeting just did not go well.

Now you can’t quit, but rather learn from what went wrong.  A successful business owner does not quit when things don’t quite right. You figure out what went wrong, adjust, and then adapt.

Your ability to think, be flexible, and resilient will serve you in the long run.  You have to keep moving.

I remember missing the deadline to our editor for our first book.  We were devastated because we had committed to having it done in 10 weeks.  Instead, it took us 6 months.  We were determined not to give up.  We had some technical difficulty with the recording device, made the correction, and completed the book. We were overjoyed at the accomplishment.

If we had lost our determination, we would have missed the opportunity to share our strategies with hundreds of other entrepreneurs. Our success was right around the corner.

3. Focus on What is Really Important

Your determination may falter when the bills begin to pile up and yet you see no income.

You begin to wonder if the sacrifices in time, money, self-esteem are worth it. After all you have been successful in other areas of life. Why doesn’t this seem to be working?

Your self-image is on the line!  I can understand!

That is when you have to dig deep within yourself and focus on what is most important right now!

Take one little step on a key priority to gain momentum.  Then another and another!

Keep moving ahead no matter what. Make a phone call. Write one paragraph. Delegate a task to your team.

Get something done right now!  You will eventually  develop those habits of determination that will serve to make you a successful entrepreneur.

 Conclusion

As you can see, determination is a key trait of a successful and prosperous entrepreneur.

This trait that can be developed by (1) remembering why you are in business; (2) learning from your mistakes; and (3) focusing on what is really important.

Sometimes everything seems to go wrong and you are tempted to quit.

But remember, your success could be right around the corner. So remember to take action each day on your business.

By following these three strategies you can develop the habits of determination that will propel your success and prosperity.
