How to Quickly Write a Business Book in 10 Weeks
Are you ready to learn how to write a business book? You have heard that being a published author is a great way to brand yourself. But you wonder how you could possibly accomplish such a huge task.
Dexter and I have written two books and are writing a third. Let us show you the blueprint that we follow. Listen to the discussion on the podcast as we share the first step in the process.
If you follow along with this podcast series, your book will be ready for publication in 10 weeks.
The first step in this streamlined book writing process is to find a laser-focused topic. Yes, you know a lot about your business. You are the expert. But, you need to decide which aspect of your business will be the topic for your book.
For example, if you are in the weight loss business, you could right about “how to lose weight.” However, that topic is too broad. A better topic would be “how to lose 10% of your body weight in 30 days.” This topic is much narrower and more focused.
To help you find a topic you should do some limited research. Do not spend a lot of time on research. Look at bookstores to find out what is selling in your niche. Check out the best-sellers on Amazon. Go to your local library. Find out what your targeted community is interested in learning. What kinds of questions are they asking. Be sure to include your unique position on the topic.
Listen to the podcast as we share with you how to get started with writing a business book in 10 weeks!

How to Quickly Increase Your Visibility with Public Speaking
How to Increase Your Visibility with Public Speaking
As an author, entrepreneur, or coach one of the best ways to boost your business success is to increase your visibility with public speaking. I have given hundreds of presentations during a lifetime of being a paid speaker, attorney, and seminar presenter.
Therefore, if you want to increase your visibility then get started with public speaking today.
Do not put this off because you find it to be uncomfortable.
Sometimes you must do what is uncomfortable, if you want to achieve uncommon results!
Perhaps you are like me. I put off doing things that are unfamiliar.
To address my unpleasant habit, I am starting a 40-Day Procrastination Fast.
This is not your typical fast where I give up food. During this fast I am giving up an unpleasant habit that I have developed.
I call my unpleasant habit my “Scarlett O'Hara Syndrome.” I put off today, what I can do tomorrow. Sometimes, tomorrow never comes.
So, starting today, all those projects that have been piling up and never accomplished, get ticked off one at a time.
The first project on my list, is this blog post.
Increase Your Visibility with Public Speaking Today, Not Tomorrow
Today, my focus is public speaking. Nothing helps you gain greater visibility and authority than speaking in public. You must start to increase your visibility with public speaking today. Do not wait until tomorrow.
Is putting off public speaking your unpleasant habit? If so, then join me in this 40-Day Procrastination Fast. Grab the opportunity today, to increase your visibility with public speaking.
Seek out opportunities to share what you know.
If you are an author, small business owner, entrepreneur, or life coach you must leave the comfort of the computer, or wherever you hide out. If you want greater visibility, then stand up and be seen.
Look for Public Speaking Opportunities at Your Church
You can volunteer to speak at your church to increase your visibility.
Speaking in front of people who already know, trust, and like you, will increase your visibility and build your confidence. With increased confidence you can begin to add other public speaking opportunities.
For the past 3 weeks I have had the opportunity to present a three-minute segment, called “The Black History Moment.” I have shared stories and historical facts about African-Americans in Times of War. My focus has been on World War I because this year is the 100th anniversary of “The War to End All Wars.”
The opportunity to speak in front of a church audience should not be taken lightly. It is a great privilege that should be undertaken for the right reasons and provide value to those present.
Look for Public Speaking Opportunities at Local Service Clubs
Check out your local service organizations, (Rotary, Lions, Kiwanis) who are looking for speakers every week. Volunteer to speak at their meeting.
Local libraries, business associations (like the Chamber of Commerce), and civic associations are always looking for speakers. Therefore, contact those types of organizations in your local community.
Be bold in your commitment to increase your visibility with public speaking. Do not the fear of doing something unfamiliar hold you back from your destiny.
Prepare a 15-20- minute signature speak that you give on your topic. As you continue to give your speech, you will get better. Remember that preparation is the key.
At my local rotary Club, for the past several weeks, I have given a 3-minute introduction of our guests that highlights them and the best aspects of Rotary International. The perception of me as a leader, increased exponentially as I stepped up and showcased my public speaking ability.
Tackle Your Fear of Public Speaking
If you are afraid of public speaking, I say, “Just get over it.” You must learn to tackle your fear of public peaking.
If you want to elevate your business, then you must showcase your expertise. Let the world, or at least your community, know of the experience and expertise that you offer.
As an entrepreneur, you are a leader. As a leader you can not sit on the sideline. Instead you must learn to transform your mindset from an employee to an entrepreneur as you “Step into Your Power.”
You can quickly overcome your fear of public speaking by scheduling yourself to regularly speak. The more frequently that you engage in public speaking, the more confidence you will develop.
Conclusion/Call to Action
Jumpstart your success by beginning to increase your visibility with public speaking. This is the best way to build your authority status as a recognized expert in your community. Standing in front of the room, gives you credibility and visibility.
Follow this advice:
1. Increase Your Visibility with Public Speaking Today, Not Tomorrow
2. Look for Public Speaking Opportunities at Your Church
3. Look for Public Speaking Opportunities at Your Local Service Organizations
4. Tackle Your Fear of Public Speaking

Start Your Speech with a Powerful Hook
Start Your Speech with a Powerful Hook
Are you wondering how to start your speech? Are you wondering what separates a boring speaker from one who is engaging and successful? It has been my experience, after making hundreds of presentations, that you must start your speech with a powerful hook. Having a powerful hook at the beginning of your speech marks you as a confident and prepared presenter. As an entrepreneur, you want to make a great first impression. Remember, you can use public speaking to attract new clients. As I mentioned in a recent blog post, speaking on a regular basis helps you quickly overcome your fear of public speaking. Having a scripted and rehearsed hook as part of your opening helps you start your speech strong.
1. What is a Hook?
What is a “hook?” A hook is defined as something designed to catch your audience’s. attention. You want to start your speech with a powerful hook. You use your “hook” to reel in the audience to focus on your message. As the presenter, once you start your speech you want to grab their attention immediately. Those first 30 seconds are crucial.
2. Examples of a Hook
Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address is an example of how to start your speech with a great hook. Lincoln started by saying, “Four score and 7 years ago, our fathers bought forth on this continent a new nation.” He could have easily said “87 years ago.” But he chose to make the audience think about what he had to say.
In music, the “hook” is usually the catchy chorus that everyone remembers. I just love the hook from “Happy.” Just a few years ago everyone was walking around singing, “cause I’m happy.” We may not have known any other words from the song, but we knew the “hook”.
Here are a few songs with my favorite hooks: (1) “I Want to Hold Your Hand” (2) “Beat It” (3) “I Will Survive.”
3. Ways to Hook Your Audience
Bruna Martinuzzi, in a recent article, discusses “12 Ways to Hook an Audience in 30 Seconds.” A few of the hooks she mentioned are: (1) a story; (2) a quote; and (3) statistics.
Martinuzzi, also talks about the power of using a series of rhetorical questions. According to Martinuzzi, a series of questions stimulates the audience’s mind as they ponder the answers.
These are four great ways to start a speech or presentation. Telling a quick story, sharing an interesting quote or statistic, or asking a series of questions engages your audience’s emotions. These are powerful ways to get their attention.
I prefer to use questions to engage the audience’s attention in the beginning of a presentation. I usually use two questions to pull the audience into the conversation I plan to have with them. From the beginning, I signal that this is not a lecture. We will be having a conversation.
Even if the organizer calls your presentation a lecture, let your audience know otherwise. You and the audience will be interacting with each other. Your “hook” will set the stage for the conversation to follow.
Conclusion/Call to Action
Are you ready to make a fabulous first impression with your next speech or presentation? Then you need to start your speech with a powerful hook. There are several hooks you can use to capture your audience’s attention in those first 30 seconds. For example, you could use:
- A series of questions
- A story
- Statistics
- A quote
Use a “hook” to set the stage for a powerful interaction between you and your audience.

How to Brainstorm Your Non-Fiction Book
How to brainstorm your non-fiction book is the topic of this episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series. Writing a non-fiction book can feel unmanageable. You may feel overwhelmed and frustrated by the process. We have separated the process into 10-steps that will help you deal with those feelings.
Before you sit down to write your book, be sure to plan. Many of our recent posts and podcasts have been about the preparation you make before you start writing. This is the last in a 4-part series on how to brainstorm your non-fiction book.
Recap of Previous Episodes: Strategies for Writing Your Non-fiction Book
First, here is the recap of the previous episodes.
Step 1: What is the goal for your book?
This is the first step that many first-time authors skip. However, it is probably the single most important decision that you need to make.
Step 2: What will your book be about?
You must refine your message. Who is your ideal client? Why does he need your book? What unique insight can you provide?
Step 3: How will you incorporate your story into your book?
Remember that you have an important message that only you can share. It is your job to uncover and share your unique story.
Step 4: Conduct research
You want to do research on the top 10 books in your niche. This is not to copy them, but to get a sense of what is selling. What types of books does your audience buy? How can you address their problem from a different point of view? What is your unique position on the issues and problems of your audience?
Step 5: Outline and Organize your Content.
Remember that your outline keeps you focused. Your outline tells you what to put in the book. It also tells you what to leave out.
Step 6: Set Goals, Deadlines
Give yourself a deadline and then announce it! Do not let yourself off the hook!
Summary of Episode 3: How to Brainstorm Your Non-fiction Book
Now to the last four steps in how to brainstorm your non-fiction book. We discuss these four steps in detail in the podcast.
Step 7: Develop a plan for dealing with distractions and procrastination.
You should anticipate distractions and develop a plan. For example, you can plan to keep family and friends away while you are writing by turning off the phone and closing the door to your office.
Step 8: Choose a publishing platform for your book.
Unless your goal is to publish a New York times, bestseller, then a combination of Kindle and Create space (Amazon’s print on demand company) is probably the right choice for you. This option allows you to get your book out quickly.
Step 9: Choose the design for the book cover.
Your cover must (1) grab a reader’s attention the instant they see it, (2) pique the interest of a casual browser, and (3) quickly explain what your book is about. Also, make sure that the cover is consistent with the overall branding of your business. To find out more about branding read this article.
Step 10: Planning the launch of your book
You want to start immediately to create buzz about your book. You can do it in a variety of ways. For example,
• Being a guest on podcasts or blogs in your niche
• Getting interviewed in newspapers or magazines
• Paid advertisements on social media
Remember that your book launch will have two distinct goals:
1. Pre-release—to let everyone know about your upcoming book and to get them excited about it.
2. Post-release—to make sales
Conclusion/Call to Action

Build Your Authority Status with Creative Content
Build Your Authority Status with Creative Content
Producing creative content is one of the best ways to build your authority status. For example, one blog post could potentially reach thousands of people and establish you as a credible player in your area of expertise. You can leverage the power of the internet to create, share, and publish authority boosting content. There are several ways to do this. This article will discuss a few.
Write Blog Posts
One of the best ways to produce creative content is to have your own website where you write your own blog posts that present top quality information. At My Biz Dream Team we consistently publish 2-3 high quality posts each week. Be sure to share what you know. Answer your audience's question. You can also talk about industry news and provide solutions for your audience's problems. Make sure that the blogs that you produce are consistently of good quality and value. Let your professionalism and expertise shine through in the content.
In addition to writing blog posts for your own website, you may want to guest blog. Find a reputable industry leader who creates value-laden content. Once you have the opportunity to guest blog make the most of it. Be sure to have a clear call to action that will motivate the readers to click through and visit your website.
Another way to use blogs to your advantage is to make comments on other authoritative blogs. Be sure that your comments are substantive. This is a great opportunity to be seen in a positive light that positions you as an authority.
Publish a Book
Publishing a book is a fantastic way to establish your authority status. Nothing opens more doors for other opportunities like a book. You position yourself above others in your niche by writing a book. Digital publishing has never been easier. Opportunities to publish on Kindle or Create Space did not exist 20 years ago. Don't wait any longer to take advantage of this opportunity to make a name for yourself in a very big way. You should start brainstorming today and writing your book. If you don't have time to write it all down, speak it. That's how we created one of our books, The Book on Investing: Create the Life of Your Dreams. We made an outline of topics we wanted included in the book. Then we recorded the conversation we had about those topics. Our book emerged from the recorded conversation. It made the idea of “writing” a book much easier. You can try it our way or you can hire a ghost writer to help you.
Hold Live Events
Consider holding live events like webinars or teleseminars to provide value-laden information to people who want to learn more from you. These live events work very much like a published book to establish your authority status. Every Wednesday, we hold a live teleseminar training program: My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series. People tend to naturally give authority status to people who are published and to people who “teach” and speak in public. Holding your own live events gives your credibility and authority status a huge bump.
Conclusion
There are so many opportunities to create high quality, authority building content today. You should take advantage of the power of the internet to: (1) write blog posts; (2) publish a book; and (3) hold live events. You may also want to consider publishing articles in traditional magazines and newspapers. These opportunities and others allow you to showcase your expertise. They also help you to become recognized as an authority figure in you niche.
