How to Network Like an Awesome Entrepreneur
How to Network Like an Awesome Entrepreneur
Do you dread going to networking events? Yes, I understand your fear and concern. As an attorney, author, entrepreneur, and speaker I have attended hundreds of networking events and agonized over what to do and say. You may wonder whether you will say the right things. Perhaps, you are thinking whether it will be worth your time and effort to attend. What if I shared with you, 5 quick and easy strategies that I have learned and used that will allow you to network like an awesome entrepreneur? Would you find that helpful?
If so, continue reading to find out how you can network like an awesome entrepreneur.
1. Prepare and Ask Follow-Up Questions
The first strategy in learning to network like an awesome entrepreneur is to prepare and use great follow up questions. When the person you have approached responds to your opening comments you need to have a great follow-up question to ask to continue the conversation.
If all you can think of is “oh, that’s nice” your new contact will not be impressed.
Before you go to the event think up follow-up questions that will get your new contact talking.
Try to put yourself in her shoes. What questions would she like for you to ask? Remember, people like to talk about themselves. Ask follow-up questions that will allow them to impress you!
For example:
• “What do you like most about being a ___________?”
• “What got you started in _____________?”
• “Did you imagine in high school you’d be a __________ one day?
• Did you always know you were going to ____________?”
• “That must entail a lot of responsibility. How do you deal with _________?”
Remember before going to a networking event to brainstorm follow-up questions that are guaranteed to get the other person talking!

2. Donate to Networking Events
The second strategy in learning how to network like an awesome entrepreneur is to donate items to the networking event. Just make sure the items are incredibly useful and memorable.
For example, if people are going to want to take notes, give out mini-clipboards with notepads and pens on. Brand your donated item.
Or if it is an outdoor sports event, give away baseball caps branded with your information.
The key with any sort of giveaway is to make sure:
• The giveaway is visually and aesthetically pleasing – a nice shape that fits comfortably in a pocket or beautiful color
• It is going to be something indispensable – something highly useful and relevant
• The giveaway includes your contact information and what you do – your big benefit – so that when people need someone who provides what you provide, they remember to go check out that giveaway that they are still using.
3. Use a Custom Nametag at Networking Events
The third strategy in learning how to network like an awesome entrepreneur is to create a permanent custom badge. Then use it at networking events.
Lose that paper nametag that you find at the door of networking events!
Make sure that your custom name badge reflects your business. By choosing the right shape or graphic with your name displayed within or underneath it can help people remember you much better than they remember your peers.
Your custom name badge can also be a conversation starter!
You might also want to consider putting your name on a custom-made tin badge with your snappy slogan – the one you wrote specifically for the networking event.
4. Volunteer at Networking Events
Volunteer at networking events. This has several distinct advantages.
First, you are perceived as an “insider” – someone who it could be worthwhile getting to know.
Second, you get a “sneak peek” at the people attending without any pressure on you, all while you are helping them.
Also, unbelievably, volunteering can be the perfect strategy if you are an introvert. The benefits vary but are substantial. For example, you can:
• Familiarize yourself with the venue before the rest of the world arrives.
• Meet key organizers who will make you feel comfortable.
• Use your official capacity to speak to people in comfort.
Familiarizing yourself in advance with unfamiliar places is something you probably consciously do already – only this time, you are also familiarizing yourself with people you want to meet.
Not only do you get to meet and assess people, you also get to decide on exactly who you want to follow up with later.
5. Arrive Early at Networking Events
This simple little strategy can make you more valuable contacts than all other strategies lumped together!
When you arrive early, you meet other proactive and organized people. There is a more relaxed pace, and people naturally tend to chat before the event begins.
This is when the most natural conversations take place.
This is when people really will remember you!

How to Quickly Increase Your Visibility with Public Speaking
How to Increase Your Visibility with Public Speaking
As an author, entrepreneur, or coach one of the best ways to boost your business success is to increase your visibility with public speaking. I have given hundreds of presentations during a lifetime of being a paid speaker, attorney, and seminar presenter.
Therefore, if you want to increase your visibility then get started with public speaking today.
Do not put this off because you find it to be uncomfortable.
Sometimes you must do what is uncomfortable, if you want to achieve uncommon results!
Perhaps you are like me. I put off doing things that are unfamiliar.
To address my unpleasant habit, I am starting a 40-Day Procrastination Fast.
This is not your typical fast where I give up food. During this fast I am giving up an unpleasant habit that I have developed.
I call my unpleasant habit my “Scarlett O'Hara Syndrome.” I put off today, what I can do tomorrow. Sometimes, tomorrow never comes.
So, starting today, all those projects that have been piling up and never accomplished, get ticked off one at a time.
The first project on my list, is this blog post.
Increase Your Visibility with Public Speaking Today, Not Tomorrow
Today, my focus is public speaking. Nothing helps you gain greater visibility and authority than speaking in public. You must start to increase your visibility with public speaking today. Do not wait until tomorrow.
Is putting off public speaking your unpleasant habit? If so, then join me in this 40-Day Procrastination Fast. Grab the opportunity today, to increase your visibility with public speaking.
Seek out opportunities to share what you know.
If you are an author, small business owner, entrepreneur, or life coach you must leave the comfort of the computer, or wherever you hide out. If you want greater visibility, then stand up and be seen.
Look for Public Speaking Opportunities at Your Church
You can volunteer to speak at your church to increase your visibility.
Speaking in front of people who already know, trust, and like you, will increase your visibility and build your confidence. With increased confidence you can begin to add other public speaking opportunities.
For the past 3 weeks I have had the opportunity to present a three-minute segment, called “The Black History Moment.” I have shared stories and historical facts about African-Americans in Times of War. My focus has been on World War I because this year is the 100th anniversary of “The War to End All Wars.”
The opportunity to speak in front of a church audience should not be taken lightly. It is a great privilege that should be undertaken for the right reasons and provide value to those present.
Look for Public Speaking Opportunities at Local Service Clubs
Check out your local service organizations, (Rotary, Lions, Kiwanis) who are looking for speakers every week. Volunteer to speak at their meeting.
Local libraries, business associations (like the Chamber of Commerce), and civic associations are always looking for speakers. Therefore, contact those types of organizations in your local community.
Be bold in your commitment to increase your visibility with public speaking. Do not the fear of doing something unfamiliar hold you back from your destiny.
Prepare a 15-20- minute signature speak that you give on your topic. As you continue to give your speech, you will get better. Remember that preparation is the key.
At my local rotary Club, for the past several weeks, I have given a 3-minute introduction of our guests that highlights them and the best aspects of Rotary International. The perception of me as a leader, increased exponentially as I stepped up and showcased my public speaking ability.
Tackle Your Fear of Public Speaking
If you are afraid of public speaking, I say, “Just get over it.” You must learn to tackle your fear of public peaking.
If you want to elevate your business, then you must showcase your expertise. Let the world, or at least your community, know of the experience and expertise that you offer.
As an entrepreneur, you are a leader. As a leader you can not sit on the sideline. Instead you must learn to transform your mindset from an employee to an entrepreneur as you “Step into Your Power.”
You can quickly overcome your fear of public speaking by scheduling yourself to regularly speak. The more frequently that you engage in public speaking, the more confidence you will develop.
Conclusion/Call to Action
Jumpstart your success by beginning to increase your visibility with public speaking. This is the best way to build your authority status as a recognized expert in your community. Standing in front of the room, gives you credibility and visibility.
Follow this advice:
1. Increase Your Visibility with Public Speaking Today, Not Tomorrow
2. Look for Public Speaking Opportunities at Your Church
3. Look for Public Speaking Opportunities at Your Local Service Organizations
4. Tackle Your Fear of Public Speaking

Repurpose Your Content: 3 Quick and Effective Strategies
Repurpose Your Content: 3 Quick and Effective Strategies
As a blogger, you do not need to stay in constant creation mode. Once you have a library of content, go through it, and start to repurpose your content. You can go back to interviews that you have done, podcasts that you have appeared on, emails and social media posts that you have sent, and then add the content to your blog.
1. Repurpose Your Content: Interviews
If you have ever appeared as a guest on a podcast, one way to start to repurpose your content, is take the script from that podcast and put it on your blog. You can also link the audio to the podcast to your blog.
2. Repurpose Your Content: Blog Posts
You can also revamp your old blog posts. If you have blog posts that can be improved or blogs that can be better defined for your target market, start there. You can revamp those old blog posts and rebirth them with a fresh voice.
I recently edited and revamped several older blog posts. Now they more clearly express my view point and answer questions asked by my readers.
See: Write, Speak, Broadcast: 3 Strategies for Business Success
3. Repurpose Your Content: Social Media and Emails
If you are post to social media and find yourself writing lengthy social media posts, then you can take those posts and use them as an excellent framework and foundation for a blog.
The same concept applies to your emails. If you are emailing your list, that content should be used again. Do not let it go to waste! Share that content with your broader audience.
You can turn those tips and strategies that you are giving as nuggets of wisdom to your list and use them as a foundation for a blog post for the public.
Conclusion/Call to Action
Take the time repurpose your content. Go through your content and evaluate what you have that you could possibly reuse in a variety of ways.
Maybe you even have content that you have written before, and now you can transform that content into short videos, or a workbook that would work better for your ideal client.

Quick and Easy Strategic Planning for Your Blog
Strategic Planning for Your Blog
Creating content for your blog can feel overwhelming, especially if you do not have a plan. When you use strategic planning for your blog content, it will feel less stressful.
Blogging does not have to feel like “too much” on your to-do list.

When you map out the following:
• Define your intentions for your blog

• Identify your audience
• Create defined goals you would like to achieve
…You will experience incredible results in your business. You will grow your audience tenfold and position your business to lure in clients that you are meant to serve. It all starts with a plan!
When you blog with the right intention you will be able to:
• Rise in your industry as the go-to expert in your field
• Capitalize on your reputation and brand
• Attract your ideal clients using content with purpose
• Drive traffic and potential clients to your website
• Sell your coach offerings with ease (to the people who need it the most!)
Remember, what my mentor Connie Ragen Green says, blogging for your business, is worth it!
Exercise: Organize your blogging goals

How to Quickly Create an Action Plan for Your Awesome Blog
Quickly Create an Action Plan for Your Awesome Blog
A few months ago I wrote “How to Quickly Start an Awesome Blog.” I received great response from the article! However, a few people told me that they did not act on the advice that I offered. As a follow up to that earlier article, today I am sharing a few elements of The Action Plan for Blogging™. By following this plan, you can quickly create an action plan for your awesome blog.
I understand your frustration in not being as successful as you had hoped to be blogging. It took me a few months to get accustomed to the demands of blogging. Like me, you may be distracted by household chores, issues at your 9-5 job, or catching up with the latest episode of Grey's Anatomy.
However, if you want to be a successful blogger, then you must quickly create an action plan for your awesome blog. Otherwise, time will slip away and you will have nothing to show for it. You might give up your dream of having a successful blog. I encourage you to read this blog post by my mentor, Connie Ragen Green, for encouragement and understanding of the importance of “Blogging for Your Business.”
If you want to achieve the success that you desire, then act now to quickly create an action plan for your awesome blog.
1. Use a Calendar to Schedule Time for Creating Blogs
You need more than a plan for when you will post and market. You also need a plan to determine when you can fit in this time to create the content. I am most successful when I use a calendar to schedule appointments with myself for work. This is time that I dedicate to writing and planning the next blogs and other products that I create.
2. Hire Team Members to Help Create Blogs
Hire someone and outsource to a virtual assistant or a writer if you are pressed for time. Content is the cornerstone of your blog. If you are not putting out content in a consistent way, then you cannot expect to reach your ideal audience. Make it a priority to create content yourself. Otherwise, hire team members to help create blog content.
3. Use Private-Label Rights Material
You may want to use PLR (private label rights) material that you or your assistant has edited. I find the materials offered by Nicole Dean and Melissa Ingold at Coach Glue to be excellent. You can edit or add to this material to make it sound more like you.
When you follow the link for Coach Glue, you will receive a free New Client Kit, to help you get started in your business. You can also check out the other helpful PLR products that Coach Glue offers.
What is most important is that the content gets created. It does not matter if it is from you or from someone you hire on your team. Either way, creating an action plan and filling in timeframes where you can either create the content yourself or task it out to your team members is going to be the defining point for the success of your blog.
Conclusion/Call to Action
Now that I have shared a few elements from The Action Plan for Blogging™ it is time for you to quickly create an action plan for your awesome blog. Ideas are wonderful to have, but unless you organize them, they often get put on the back burner. Sometimes your wonderful ideas do not end up as successful results. However, if you have an action plan and factor in the time needed to complete and achieve your goals, then your ideas turn into actions, and your actions will turn into extraordinary results.
Remember that it is vitally important to quickly create an action plan for your awesome blog. As the blog owner, you are responsible for creating and publishing valuable content for your audience. To make sure that your great ideas are not put on the back burner, quickly create an action for your blog. Your plan should at a minimum include:
(1) Scheduling specific dates and times for writing;
(2) Adding team members to create blogs, if you do not have time;
(3) Using Private-label Rights material
Remember, do not give up your dream! You can rely on me, Pamela Montgomery, to encourage you and to be an advocate for you achieving uncommon results in your business and in your life.

Goal Setting for Entrepreneurs
Goal Setting for Entrepreneurs
Goal setting for entrepreneurs can often be a tedious and time-consuming chore. Many entrepreneurs have this view of goal-setting because they do not see many positive results from the exercise. Have you ever felt that way? You set goals at the beginning of the year, then you set aside the paper with your written goals, and never achieve any results.
If that sounds like you, then you are in the right place. Today, I want to share with you my approach to goal setting for entrepreneurs that is not tedious or unproductive.
1. What is Goal Setting for Entrepreneurs?
Most business experts will tell you that you need to set S.M.A.R.T. goals. These same gurus will tell you that without setting S.M.A.R.T. goals you will never achieve the business and financial success that you desire. At one point, I wrote an article advocating S.M.A.R.T. goals.
Now, I am ready to explode when I hear the experts talk about S.M.A.R.T. goals.
I have come to realize from personal experience, that S.M.A.R.T. goals can limit you. The biggest goals that I have achieved have come from setting outrageous goals, not S.M.A.R.T. goals. Just think about what S.M.A.R.T. means: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time-bound.
While that looks great on paper—and clearly, it is easy to remember—it does not go far enough for those who want to achieve important things. I agree with the premise that goals should be specific, measurable, and timely. However, I do not agree with the other two premises that goals should be attainable and realistic.
2. Does an “Attainable” “Realistic” Goal Inspire You?
Think about it. Do you want to be stuck with “attainable” and “realistic” goals when what you really dream about is a 3-day workweek, frequent international travel, and enough money to fund a college endowment? It seems clear to me that those safe, S.M.A.R.T. goals are not going to get you there.
In fact, they might even do worse than simply “not get you there.” They may actively hold you back.
Have you ever, set a goal to increase your earnings by 10%? That is often viewed as an “attainable” and “realistic” goal. But did that 10% goal inspire you to work harder? Or did it create a subconscious ceiling on your earning potential that you are unable to break through?
When I was 8 years old and I set the goal of becoming a lawyer. No one would have said my goal was “attainable” or “realistic.” Some would say my goal was outrageous. My goal required an expensive college and law school education. Then I would have to take and pass an expensive and tough bar exam before I received a license to practice law. My parents were not wealthy. I did not know any attorneys. But I had a burning desire to help people who were left out and locked out of full and equal participation in our social, legal, and economic systems. Despite, the seeming appearance of my goals being unrealistic and unattainable, I became a licensed attorney at the age of 25.
3. Goal Setting for the Savvy Entrepreneur
The savvy entrepreneur, rather than focusing on goals that are “attainable” and “realistic” knows that the key to incredible success lies in creating lofty goals that feel out of reach—maybe even UN-attainable. Savvy entrepreneurs do not strive to earn 10% more than last year. They want 50% or even 100% more. The savvy entrepreneur stretches herself. She finds new, and better, ways to do things.
Of course, you cannot simply declare crazy goals and expect to achieve them. However, when you shun the attainable goal for the outrageous goal, you push yourself beyond those self-imposed limits and reach for the stars.
Conclusion/Call to Action
Goal setting for entrepreneurs does not have to be a tedious and worthless exercise. When you learn to set the right kind of goals, you can achieve results far beyond your wildest desires. Remember to set goals that inspire you! You have a much better chance of achieving your goal, if it motivates your heart.

How to Sound Like a Professional Podcaster

How to Sound Like a Professional Podcaster
Are you ready to sound like a professional podcaster? Do you want your guest to know that she is dealing with a savvy pro podcaster? If so, then listen to the latest episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series. We continue with “How to Get Started with Podcasting Part 4.”
In this episode we discuss the steps to take before you invite your first guest, if you want to sound like a professional podcaster. Remember, your potential guest does not want to deal with an amateur!
1. Produce at Least One Podcast or Podcast Series
If you want to sound like a professional podcaster, then you want to produce at least one podcast or podcast series before you invite your first guest. How will they know if you are a good presenter or interviewer if they have never heard you?
You will need a website for your podcast. That means you will need to buy a domain name for your program. If you already have a website, where you blog, you can link your podcast to that website.
That is what we did. On our website, My Biz Dream Team.com, you will find a link to our podcast on the side bar. You may want to try something similar.
2. Get the Right Equipment
If you want to sound like a professional podcaster, then make sure that you get the right equipment. I recommend you get a good noise cancelling USB headset with a microphone. I recommend and use a Plantronics headset that I bought on Amazon.
You will also want professional recording software. Audacity is available for free.
Also, think carefully about your podcast hosting platform. We use and recommend Blubrry. We like Blubrry because it:
a. easily connects to our WordPress blog; b. provides us great analytics; and c. is not expensive.
For more information on choosing podcast hosting platform, click here, 8 Best Sites to Host Your Podcasts.
For information on setting up your podcast feed, I recommend this article, How to Start Your Own Podcast: Getting Your Voice Heard Literally.
3. Prepare the Recording Space
If you want to sound like a professional podcast, then be sure to prepare your recording space. That means you should make your recording in a room with a closed door. So many people make the mistake of not thinking about where they will make the recording. You want to avoid background noises. Interruptions by crying babies, barking dogs, and ringing phones are not professional.
You want to get prepared by having a glass of water nearby, your notes for the program, and a smile on your face. Remember to close the door and to hit the record button!
In a recent article, media trainer and publicist, Joanne McCall, also offers several excellent tips on how to sound like a savvy pro podcaster. One great tip, that we followed is, “actively listen to other podcasts to learn what you love and what you hate.”
Conclusion/Call to Action
In this series on “How to Start a Podcast,” we have emphasized the importance of having great conversations on your podcast. One way to have great conversations is to invite engaging guests. If you want the best guests for your audience, before issuing that invitation make sure that you sound like a professional podcaster.
By following a few simple steps before you invite your first guest, you can sound like a professional podcaster.

How to Select and Invite Great Podcast Guests
Are you seriously interested in starting a podcast in 2018? If so, you need to know how to select and invite great podcast guests. Listen to the latest episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series, as we share our strategies for selecting and inviting great podcast guests. We have been podcasting for more than a year, and have learned a few strategies that we want to share with you. Hopefully you can learn from our mistakes.
1. Conduct Research Before You Invite Guest
Sometimes you think a person would be a great guest, because they are well-known, knowledgeable, and would fit with your overall theme and focus of your podcast. You know exactly which podcast series would be a perfect fit for them. However, before inviting them, first find out about a few things. You want to know:
· What are they known for
· What is their latest project?
· Who is their audience?
· What can you give them, in terms of adding value?
· What is going on in their personal and/or professional lives that will make your invitation to them good or bad timing?
The timing of your invitation is critical.
2. Develop a Relationship with Intended Guest
Before you invite an intended guest, build a relationship with her by attending her webinars, going to her events, and following her on social media. You do not have to stalk them. However, you do need to let them know that you exist and are interested in what they offer. Another excellent way to establish a relationship with an intended guest is to comment on her blog post. Having a relationship with your intended guests makes it much easier to extend an invitation.
3. Think of Inviting People Outside of Your Niche
If you want a podcast that is interesting, entertaining, and informative do not invite the same guests as everyone else in your niche. There are many interesting people who could be an asset to your podcast. If your focus is primarily people who have online business, invite guests who may have an offline perspective.
Remember you are the person, who is driving the conversation. You can think of ways to make your guest interesting to your audience.
Conclusion/Call to Action
Learning how to select and invite great podcast guests is a key strategy for a successful podcast. Follow these three tips:
1. Conduct research before inviting an intended guest
2. Develop a relationship with an intended guest
