3 Steps to a Stress-Free Business Launch
Dexter and I had a fun today discussing the 3 steps to a stress-free business launch. It is a topic that we love to discuss with budding entrepreneurs. Therefore, if you are thinking about quitting your 9-5 job and leaving that bad boss behind, listen to this episode of My Biz Dream Team Opportunity Wednesday Training Series before you break out of those of chains.
You will quickly realize that the issues that we discuss in this podcast episode are not about business.
Instead, we are talking about life. We are discussing how you need to order your life before and after you make that leap into the world of entrepreneurship.
Realize that everyone is not going to be happy with your decision to leave your 9-5 job behind. There will be people who are jealous, because they wish they had the guts to break out from the mundane job they have.
There will be others who think that you are a fool for giving up the security of a regular pay check. They will be looking at you. Perhaps wishing that you fail. That is the reality of life.
You will be joining the more than 500,000 small businesses that are started each month. By tuning into our podcast, you find valuable information that will help you become one the successful new business owners. For more information on planning and launching your new business check out the business guides at the Small Business Administration.
Now, you are ready to take a moment to consider the 3 steps to a stress-free business launch!
1. Build-up Your Financial Reserves
If you want a stress-free business launch, then make sure you have financial reserves before you resign. You will probably want emergency reserves for your business and your personal life. As you launch your business, you do not want to be worrying about how you are going to pay your bills. You will have enough on your mind without the additional stress of worrying about whether you can afford to pay the mortgage and buy groceries.
2. Gain Family Support
The second step for a stress-free business launch is to make sure that your family supports this decision. Dexter and I have known entrepreneurs who did not have spousal support. It is not a good situation. The lack of support can range from no interest in the endeavor to hostility to the endeavor. Neither situation is good. Therefore, we recommend that before you resign that you discuss your plans with your family. Let them know of your dream for your business and your life. Hopefully they will buy into your vision and give you the support that you will need.
3. Take Time for Yourself
The third step for a stress-free business launch is to take time for yourself to reflect on this new phase of your life. Once you have decided to break out the chains of your 9-5 job and launch your business, be sure to schedule time for yourself.
Yes, you are excited about your new business! But you cannot work all the time. Make sure to schedule time for a walk or a work out. Take a few days off.
You do not want to work all day long. Click here to read: Finding Time for Yourself: “Me” Time
Remember that you are building a business, not a job! At some point you will want to add team members who can help you reach the business and financial goals that you have set. To find out more about building your team check out: The Ultimate Guide to Building Your Business Dream Team.

Work from Home: 3 Tips for Creating a Business Not a Job
Work from Home: 3 Tips for Creating a Business Not a Job
Are you ready to work from home? Are you ready to leave your 9-5 job? Many people dream of working for themselves, being their own boss, and having the freedom to take on clients and projects they love. This dream continues even in the face of data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics that the self-employment rate has trended downward over the past two decades. According to a recent report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 1994, “the self-employment rate was 12.1 percent; by 2015, the rate had declined to 10.1 percent. From 1994 to 2015, the unincorporated self-employment rate fell from 8.7 percent to 6.4 percent.”
What you may not realize, though, is that there is a huge difference between building a business and being self-employed.
Business owners scale their income. Self-employed people trade dollars for hours. I know several dentists, doctors, lawyers, and technicians who are self-employed. Don't you? If the lawyer is sick and out the office, the work does not get done.
Business owners leverage the skills and talents of others. They have staff who work for them. The staff can be employees or contractors.
Self-employed people rely on their own skills. If you are the only person in your “business,” then you are self-employed.
Are you discouraged yet? Don't be. Every business owner started out self-employed. Just do not stay there. When you work from home, these three tips will help you build a sustainable business instead of another job.
1. Do Not Try to Do it All Yourself
Building a sustainable business requires that you leverage the talents and time of others. While it might seem cost-effective to simply do everything yourself–especially in the start-up phase when you likely have more time than money–it is the path to burnout and stress.
Instead separate your tasks into those that you love and are especially suited for (for example, marketing) and those that you dislike or not great at. Then make a solid plan to get those tasks that you dislike or are not great at doing off of your plate. If you think that you cannot afford to outsource it all right now, start with what you tend to procrastinate doing, even if it is just a few hours each month.
For more information on building a business team, listen to our podcast and read our blog post: Building a Great Business Team.
2. Do Not Allow Yourself to Work All the Time
The trouble with working at home is that you live at work. That means that there is no clear line between your work day and home life. Initially, I found myself caught in a never-ending cycle of work. But I quickly learned that was not a recipe for success.
Since there is always work to do, it is easy to find yourself working every available moment–often to the detriment of your family relationships. You can avoid this situation by:
- Setting and maintaining clear work hours
- Having an office with a door you can close when you are done
- Scheduling time for family and other activities
- Taking time for yourself
It is so important to find time everyday to reflect and focus on what is truly important. As stated by Kevin Kruse, author of 15 Secrets Successful People Know About, Secret #1 is “Time is your most valuable and scarcest resource.” Use some of that time for yourself. That is not being selfish. To find out more about taking time for yourself, read our blog post, Finding Time for Yourself: “Me” Time
3. Take Time to Relax, Refresh, and Renew Yourself!
Do not create a business that requires you to be “in the office” every day. At the start, you may need to be available more, but you should plan for the day when you can be “off the grid” for extended periods of time.
- Have trusted contractors who can handle things when you are away
- Leverage automation tools such as autoresponders and auto-webinar systems
- Create repeatable systems so that you are not always re-inventing the wheel
While you may not be able to hit the road with no internet access for weeks at a time, at the very least you should be able to reduce your workload to a daily check-in.
Sound impossible? It is not. with some forethought and planning, you can create a team, and systems they need, to successfully run your business without becoming overwhelmed and overworked. To find out more about the importance of creating systems and delegating to others read your blog post, Delegate to Your Business Dream Team to Multiply Your Success.
Conclusion/Call to Action
Make sure that when you leave your 9-5 job to work from home, that you have not created another job for yourself. By following these three tips you will be on your way to leveraging the efforts of others to create a business that you can scale and enjoy.
- Do not try to do everything yourself
- Do not allow yourself to work all the time
- Take time to relax, refresh, and renew!

Affiliate Marketing: Building Your Business Dream Team
Affiliate Marketing: Building Your Business Dream Team
Affiliate marketing is a great way to earn income as an on-line entrepreneur. With affiliate marketing you have a partner/team member who pays you a commission to recommend his products. This is a great stream of income. By mastering a few strategies for affiliate marketing you can quickly build (1) business income and (2) business team members. Here are three strategies for effective affiliate marketing.
-
1. Recommend Only What You Love
In affiliate marketing, you should recommend only those products and services that you have bought, used, and found helpful. You are much more credible in promoting a product if you really believe in it. It helps when you are bragging about someone’s product that you have actual experiences and results. I love bragging about Connie Ragen Green’s course on Affiliate Marketing. I have taken the course, read her books, and implemented her strategies in my business. Listen in as I interview Connie Ragen Green about how she became the “Queen of Affiliate Marketing.”
2. Recommend Digital Products and Services
Most affiliate marketing involves promoting digital products, services, or courses. That's basically what we do. Most of our affiliate marketing is done through either Nanacast or Clickbank. Nanacast and Clickbank are digital platforms where entrepreneurs showcase their digital products. We have accounts on both. You may also want to become an affiliate with Amazon. As an Amazon affiliate you gain access to the many digital and physical products available on that site. It is a thrill to earn an income based on your recommendations!
3. Get to Know Your Business Partners
In affiliate marketing you need to get to know the people behind the products that you recommend. These people are important team members. You should try to establish relationships with them. These relationships can lead to other business opportunities. You can establish relationships with them by commenting on posts and engaging in community forums. Attending live events is a great way to meet them. I know that you want to be an on-line entrepreneur! Sometimes, however, you have to leave the comfort of your computer. We attend several live events each year. We find live events helpful. The live events are helpful not only for the content. The events are helpful because of the personal connections that we make. We get a much better sense of the person’s character and personality. You can become a raving fan when you know someone personally. We first met Connie Ragen Green at a live event in Toronto, Canada. We later spent more time with her at live events in London, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. Now we are raving fans for her products and services.
Conclusion/Call to Action
As you can see, affiliate marketing can be a great way to build your business dream team. Just remember to: (1) recommend only what you love; (2) recommend digital product and services using the large digital platforms; and (3) get to know the people whose products you are recommending by attending live events. Your relationships with your on-line business partners can lead you to achieving uncommon results in your business and in your life.
