How to Choose a Pathway for Success

If you had a choice, would you choose a pathway for success or a pathway for failure? Of course, you would choose a pathway for success!

However, I often find that people choose to focus on improving their weaknesses. In their minds, they see this as the pathway to success. I say, that is the wrong choice.

Instead, my experience shows that choosing a pathway for success is about identifying your strengths. Begin to chose your pathway to success as an entrepreneur by focusing on your strengths, building them up, and letting go of areas of weakness.

I have found that this course of action works for me.  Hopefully, it will work for you also.

1. Focus on Your Strengths

Focusing on your strengths makes you a much more successful entrepreneur than trying to improve your weaknesses. I learned early in life that I had a gift for public speaking and focused on that strength in school, in choosing a career, and in building a business.

After singing in the church choir, I quickly realized that singing was not one of strengths. Rather it was a weakness for me. So, why should spend time trying to become a singer.

2. Follow Your Dreams

I always dreamed of being a lawyer. I loved the idea of being an advocate. In school, I was the person advocating for students with the principal and school board.

I also enjoyed teaching. As a child, I loved teaching my siblings how to read and recite poetry and speeches. My teachers often asked me to tutor other students.

As I grew older, I was able to have a career that involved both being a lawyer and a teacher. Now, I focus on teaching business owners on becoming effective leaders, speakers, and entrepreneurs.

3. Everyone Has Strengths and Weaknesses

Everyone has both strengths and weaknesses. Not everyone is going to become a doctor. Nor is everyone going to become a concert pianist.

Neither pursuit is better than the other. They are simply different. What would you do with your life if you could only do what you really love and are good at doing?

Unfortunately, many people are taught either accidentally or on purpose that they should become well-rounded. So, sometimes they dabble in careers that do not interest them, simply because it is popular today. They have no real ability or interest in the career.

4. Do What You Love and Are Already Doing Well

I cannot think of anything much worse than doing a job all-day long that does use your strengths.

Hopefully, you are not draining your resources by dabbling in career and business endeavors simply because they are popular.

Do not try to fit a square peg into a round hole. Instead, identify your strengths, what you love doing, and are already doing well.

If you do this, then you can find entrepreneurial success.

A Powerful Approach for a Practical Business Start-up

A Powerful Approach for a Practical Business Start-up

A Powerful Approach for A Practical Business Start-up

A Powerful Approach for a Practical Business Start-up

A powerful approach for a practical business start-up begins with brainstorming a few crucial questions that will launch your business on a solid foundation with a sound business plan.  This episode of My Biz Dream Team:  Opportunity Wednesday Training Series, discusses this powerful approach for a practical business start-up.

Begin brainstorming by asking yourself these key questions:

Are you building quality into your business set-up?

Sometimes it is easy as a new entrepreneur to justify using free products and services because, “I am just beginning.” But it is a trap for the unwary. You may very well find yourself caught in a mess of disorganization and chaos because you choose the cheapest option available. If you want a business that will survive and grow, begin by building quality into the DNA of the business. Make sure that you have a presence on the internet that you own and control. Yes, that means buying a domain name and paying for hosting. They money that you spend up front will be well worth it over time.

If you want a business that will survive and grow, begin by building quality into the DNA of the business. #entrepreneurship

How will you attract your ideal client?

As you brainstorm about the business that you will launch, carefully consider: (1) who is your ideal client and (2) how will you attract your ideal client.  Are your clients located in your local community, globally, online or off-line?

It is necessary to go beyond demographics and to think about the psychographics of the clients you want to buy your goods and services. What kinds of problems do they have? How can you help them solve those problems? When pondering these questions, think about what your ideal client is looking for help with. Then consider how you can teach her or do a task for her.

You need to also consider the kind of learner she is. Is she a kinesthetic, visual, or oral learner? You may need a mix of learning modalities to reach your ideal client.

What is the perfect business model for you?

After considering your entrepreneurial personality type, think about the type of business model that works best for you. Do you want to deal one-on-one with clients on a daily business?  Do you prefer to work with clients in a group setting?  Will you provide clients with products and services that they can use without your direct involvement? If you plan to be a coach or consultant of any kind, you may want to consider a combination of

(1) one-on-one consulting;

(2) special VIP events; and

(3) information products that produce passive income.

You may find that too much of one type of product or services may overtax your abilities to provide high-quality.

Conclusion/Call to Action

This article has presented you with a powerful approach for a practical business start-up that will result in you launching your business on a solid foundation with a sound business plan. So are you ready to leave your 9-5 job?

Remember to brainstorm the following ideas:

  • How will you attract your ideal client?
  • Are you building quality into your business start-up?
  • What is the perfect business model for you?

New Entrepreneurs: 3 Massive Mistakes That Keep New Entrepreneurs Struggling

New entrepreneurs often find themselves struggling. It may be difficult to get clients, get noticed, and get paid in the noisy world of commerce. This episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series will discuss the three massive mistakes that keep new entrepreneurs struggling.

  • Mistake #3: Failing to Focus
  • Mistake #2: Failing to Plan
  • Mistake #1: Failing to Take Action

Why is it Important for the New Entrepreneur to Stop Struggling?

  • You will be discouraged.
  • You may have to go find a job.
  • You will crush your dream of having a successful business.

What Would Happen If the New Entrepreneur Stopped Struggling?

  • You would be hopeful and happy about your prospects.
  • You would feel great because the people you want to serve are hearing your powerful message.
  • Your business is growing.

Failing to Focus

As a new entrepreneur you must focus the attention of your business. You must have (1) an inward focus for self awareness, and (2) a focus on others to develop empathy and to build social relationships.  This type of focus shows that you have emotional intelligence.  The third type of focus is on the wider world. This type of focus allows you to develop strategy, be innovative, and manage your business.

Failing to Plan

As a new entrepreneur you must plan for the future. You must be sure to consider: (1) the viability of your business model, (2) the strength of your client base, and (3) how you will reach your ideal client.  Of course, you must make financial projections and monitor them.

Failing to Take Action

As a new entrepreneur you must take action. Until you take action all your plans are meaningless. It is often the fear of failure that stops you from taking action. But with the proper mentor and training you can begin to take action. With the right mentor and training you can accelerate the growth of your business.

Be Professional: Make a Good First Impression

Being Professional Matters!

Being Professional Matters!

Be Professional: Make a Good First Impression

In today's episode of My Biz Dream Team: Episode Wednesday Training Series we discuss how you should present yourself in a professional manner. We discuss specific steps that you should take to be sure that you will be seen in the best possible light. What kind of an impression are you making? As an entrepreneur you want to be seen as the expert in your market.  People are drawn to those in authority. Your professionalism will help you attract new clients and grow your business.  You may want to read our recent blog post How to be a Recognized Expert to get more information on the topic.

What Does it Mean to Present Yourself in a Professional Manner?

It means that you set high standards for your business.  What standards have you set for your business? If you set low standards, you will not be in business long.  You don't need to be perfect.  No one is perfect. But people want to do business with people who know what they are doing. It means that you have to look and sound like an expert.  You can do this in a number of ways.

(1) Your social media posts should be professional and business related.  There is a real danger of over-sharing. The danger is that your potential clients may get an unfavorable impression of you.  So be careful of what you post on social media.  Your photos and images should portray you in the best possible light.  This is the case even on personal sites.  Nothing is private on the internet.

(2) Your written and spoken language should be consistent with the image that you want to portray in your business. It is better not to use slang, tech talk, or jargon.  Make sure that you are clearly understood by potential clients.   You may want to hire an editor to help you with writing books or marketing materials.

(3) You want to seen as someone who is a problem solver.  Be friendly and approachable. You will attract more clients by putting yourself in situations where you can continue to grow and learn.  Become known as someone who helps others.

You are probably already doing many of the things we suggest. But you can always use reminders.

Leave a comment to let us know how you are using social media and marketing to make a good first impression on your potential clients.
