How to Quickly Get Started with Affiliate Marketing

Have you wondered how to quickly start making money online as you transition from your 9-5 job? You probably do not have any products or services of your own at this early stage of your business. So, what are you to do? One solution to your problem is to promote the goods and services of other companies and earn a commission. This is called affiliate marketing. This episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series is about how to quickly get started with affiliate marketing.

(1) What is Affiliate Marketing?

First, you will need to understand the concept of affiliate marketing. So, what is affiliate marketing? Affiliate marketing is promoting the products or services of others. Typically, this occurs on your blog where you write useful and informative posts. Within the body of these blog posts you will place links to the products or services that you are discussing. If a reader clicks on a link and makes a purchase, you will earn a commission. As an affiliate marketer, you can also place advertisements for your chosen affiliate companies on their website. Again, if someone clicks on the ad and makes a purchase, you earn a commission.

Here are a few of my other blog posts on Affiliate Marketing: (1) Affiliate Niche Sites: Another Way to Profit from Affiliate Marketing; (2) Income: Making Money with Affiliate Marketing; (3) Affiliate Marketing: Building Your Business Dream Team; (4) How to Make Money with Affiliate Marketing; (5) Promoting Products and Services on the Internet

(2) How to Make Money as an Affiliate?

The best way to succeed as an affiliate marketer is to choose a subject matter that is specific and interesting to you. The topic should also be relevant to your target audience. For example, if you love coffee and know a lot about it, you might choose to create a blog and write on that topic. Choose affiliate products that you believe in and are related to your niche. You have more credibility in promoting a product if you really believe in it. Show how the product or service has benefited you and your business. Write reviews, how-to posts, comparison charts and offer tips for your topic. For example, how to create a perfect cup of coffee. Where relevant, insert links to your affiliate sites. Remember to promote products and services that you know and love that are relevant to your target audience.

(3) Where to Find Affiliate Products to Promote?

It is important to get to know the people behind the products. After all, they are your business partners. Establish relationships with them. It could lead to other business opportunities.

One of my favorite business partners for affiliate marketing is Connie Ragen Green. I have known Connie for many years and have interviewed her on my podcast. I met her in Toronto, where she spoke to a large group of entrepreneurs about earning money on-line. Her presentation fascinated me and I sought her out to find out more about this fascinating area of entrepreneurship. Since that time, I have taken many of Connie’s courses and promote her courses to my clients. She is known as the “Queen of Affiliate Marketing,” having won many prizes for affiliate marketing. If you want to know more about getting started quickly with affiliate marketing, I highly recommend that you take her course, “Really Simple Affiliate Marketing.”

You can also visit the websites for your favorite products or services and look for information about affiliate programs or “partners.” Sign up and start promoting and earning cash.

I also promote affiliate products on my 2017 Resource Guide, where you can find my recommendations for products that will help you get started on-line as you make the transition from your 9-5 job.

Conclusion/Call to Action

You can quickly get started with affiliate marketing by following a few simple steps.
1) Understand the concept of affiliate marketing
2) Recommend products and services that you know and love that are relevant to your targeted audience
3) Get to know the people behind the products that you promote.

How to Quickly Start an Awesome Blog

How to Quickly Start an Awesome Blog

It felt overwhelming when my mentor first told me that I needed a blog to establish myself as an online entrepreneur. Do you feel that way? Do you feel overwhelmed by the idea of setting up a blog? Does the thought of writing 2-3 blog articles each week seem daunting? I understand. It felt that way to me at first. However, I have managed to consistently blog for more than a year. Imagine if you had a simple 3-step process that you could implement today to quickly start an awesome blog. Do not let the feeling of overwhelm keep you from pursuing your dream!

In this episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series we discuss how you can quickly start a blog. We walk you through how to get your blog up and running in matter of hours.

1. Buy a Domain Name

First you will need a name for your blog. Begin, by thinking strategically about your blog and the specific topics that you will address. Find a name that resonates with your intended audience and then purchase that domain name. Make sure that your domain name is a “.com.” Your domain name should not be a “.net” or any of the other variations. Buying a great domain name is the first step to quickly starting an awesome blog.

2. Select a Hosting Service

Next, you want to decide on a hosting service for your blog. Some bloggers start out with a free service. I did at first. But I quickly found that to be unacceptable for my long-term growth. So instead I began using Bluehost to host my blog. It is quick and reliable. Try it to see if it works for you.

3. Create Your Blog

Most bloggers use WordPress. It has become the industry standard because of its ease of use. There are also several free plugins that you can use to make your WordPress blog even more functional. Listen to this great interview with Adrienne Dupree about some free plugins that you can add to help you quickly start an awesome blog.

Conclusion/Call to Action

You can quickly start an awesome blog by following these 3 steps.
1) Buy a domain name
2) Select a hosting service
3) Create your blog

Once you have completed this 3-step process the work begins when you consistently produce high-quality content that your ideal clients will want to read. Tell all your friends and neighbors about your new blog. Ask them to subscribe.

How to Make Self Responsibility the Cornerstone of Your Success

How to Make Self Responsibilty the Cornerstone of Your Success

How to Make Self Responsibility the Cornerstone of Your Success

How to Make Self Responsibility the Cornerstone of Your Success

“If it is to be, it is up to me”

Acknowledging that you must make self responsibility the cornerstone of your success can be a daunting challenge. But, if you want to achieve extraordinary success in your business and in your life, you must make self responsibility the cornerstone.  It was certainly difficult for me to accept the truth of this concept. I wanted to blame someone else or something else for the deal that I lost or the client I did not get. But once I understood that I controlled my own destiny, I was ready to seize the opportunities that came my way. Remember, “There are no excuses!”

Other People are not Responsible for Your Success

I realize that there may be economic setbacks such as the Great Recession of 2008. Your suppliers may go out of business. Your virtual assistant may decide to quit. Although these circumstances may impact your business and your life, you must realize that they are beyond your control. You can however control how you react to these setbacks. You alone are responsible for the success of your business. Have you planned for these eventualities? Are you taking responsibility to meet the challenges of these circumstances?

Other People Probably are in Worse Circumstances than You

No matter how bad you think you have it, others probably have it even worse. So, stop crying and start taking responsibility for your success.
Here is a simple creed that is worth repeating throughout the day. It is especially helpful when you start to feel sorry for yourself:

“If it is to be, it is up to me.”

These ten simple two-letter words remind you that self responsibility is the cornerstone of success in achieving extraordinary results in your business and in your life.

Be Committed to Your Success

Once you decide to go into business, totally commit to it. There is no holding back. Jump in with both feet! Even more important than getting into business, is getting the business into you. You can indeed love your business and your life.

Make a commitment to yourself that you are going to succeed, no matter what. Remember to go the extra mile to achieve extraordinary success in your business and in your life.

Conclusion/Call to Action

Learn how to make self responsibility the cornerstone of your success in your business and in your life, if you want to achieve extraordinary success in your business and in your life. Remember: (1) other people are not responsible for your success; (2) other people are probably in worse circumstance than you; and (3) be committed to your success. Throughout the day repeat these ten simple two-letter words to remind yourself that self-responsibility is the cornerstone for achieving extraordinary success in your business and in your life.

“If it is to be, it is up to me.”

How to Fuel Success with the Power of Teamwork

How to Fuel Success with the Power of Teamwork

Imagine what you can achieve when you learn how to fuel success with the power of teamwork. In this episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series Dexter and I discuss how you can reach your business, professional and personal  goals faster when you fuel success with the power of teamwork.  As business tycoon, Andrew Carnegie stated, teamwork is the fuel for your success. So, are you using high-octane fuel to obtain success?

Who is on your team? Do you have an administrative or technical assistant? Do you have a coach or mentor? Or are you trying to do everything yourself.

What are Your Goals in Life?

What is it that you want to achieve in life? What are your long-term dreams and goals? We are sure that, like most people, you have quite a few. The question is, have you been so entrenched in the day-to-day that it is been a while since you took your dreams out of the closet, dusted them off and really thought about what you want in life.

Like you, we had very successful careers. However, we found we did not have time to do many things that were truly important. So, several years ago we decided to create the life of our dreams by harnessing the power of teamwork.

We learned to delegate to our team to multiply our success.

We learned to use the power of teamwork to spur innovation.

We learned to use the power of  teamwork to grow our affiliate-marketing campaigns.

Are You Using the Power of Teamwork?

We are Dexter and Pamela Montgomery, owners of My Biz Dream Team.  We work with an exclusive group of individual and corporate clients to help them achieve uncommon results in their business and their life. Using our signature system “The Strategic Pathway to Success ™” our clients set and meet extraordinary goals. We know that anything of significance cannot be achieved alone. With the power of a business dream team you too can create a business with a solid foundation, that gives you (1) the ability to provide extraordinary service, (2) the freedom to live the life of your dreams, and (3) the opportunity to achieve uncommon results. This is the power of teamwork.

The 9 Best Steps that Will Improve Work-life Balance

The 9 Best Steps that will Improve work-life Balance

The 9 Best Steps that Will Improve Work-life Balance

The 9 Best Steps that Will Improve Work-life Balance

Imagine if you had the 9 best steps that will improve your work-life balance. How would that impact your life?

Do you resemble this old saying: “An entrepreneur is someone who will work sixteen hours a day to keep from working eight hours for someone else.”? This is often too true in the early days of a start-up.  You are trying to get your business off the ground and focusing on making a profit.

Spending time with your family often gets a low priority. In your quest for making a profit, my advice is “Do not neglect your family.” If you are not intentional in making connections and commitments with your family you may find yourself alone.

Remember the Reason “WHY”

You may be like many people who start a business to have more time with your family. But often you find yourself spending less and less time with them. Some commentators talk about the work-life balance. I do not think those two aspects of your life can ever really balance. But you can intentionally communicate and act with integrity to maintain a fabulous relationship with your family.

Do not let your business cost you your family.

I have seen far too many people end up divorced and estranged from their children because of a lopsided devotion to work.  Yes, it is fine to be ambitious. I certainly understand the desire to get more clients, increase sales and make more money. However, you must remember the underlying reason for your work and ambition. The reason is usually to support and show love for your family.

Dexter and I have been married 35 years. We have raised our son.  At the center of this relationship is a deep commitment to each other and our shared dreams for our life together. Occasionally, I have missed my wedding anniversary, my husband’s birthday, and even Halloween for out-of-town business trips. But, I made it clear that the short-term sacrifice was for our family’s long-term benefit.

So, what can you do to be intentional in finding a balance between your business and your family so that neither suffers?

1. Set a time to stop working and then stick to it.

When you work for yourself it is sometimes hard to know when to quit. You could work around the clock. However, you need to set a time to stop working and stick to it. This may be hard. But, if you want to keep your relationship with your family going well you need to spend time with them. Decide what times you will work and when you will stop. This may need to be adjusted for big projects. But keep your family informed so they will know what to expect.

Neil Pasricha, bestselling author of The Happiness Equation, in a recent blog post advises that you (1) limit checking emails to twice a day, and (2) create 30-second barriers to after-work phone-checking.

2. Tell your family in advance if you have a tight deadline.

If you have a tough deadline coming up or a special project, explain it to your family in advance. Ask for their help in letting you complete the project undisturbed. Offer an ethical bribe such as pizza night and the movies if they would leave you alone for a few hours to complete your project.

3. Explain to your spouse and children the importance of your business.

Your family needs to understand the importance of your business. Help them to understand that this is your work. It is how you help provide housing, food and clothes for the family. You are not playing video games or watching movies. Let them know your long-term goals. What do you hope to achieve with your business? If they can share your vision, life becomes much easier.

4. Set up a private space for your office.

Try to have a space set up that is for work only. When you walk away, leave the work behind for the day. Do not bring your laptop into the family room and work. When you are with your children and your spouse, give them your complete attention.

5. Learn to be in the moment

When you are working, do not worry about the children. When you are with your children, do not stress about work. Let your family know how important they are to you and how much you love them.

6. Keep your commitments to your family

Your commitments to your family are just as important as those to your clients. Do not make it a habit of canceling on family commitments. They will quickly learn that they are a low priority in your life. If you say you are going to take the children skating or to the movies, then do so. If you agree to hire a sitter, and go out with your husband on Saturday, then do so.

7. Do not procrastinate

There is nothing worse than having two weeks to work on a project and then waiting until the last minute to get started. You will snap at your spouse and children about how you must get your work done. The truth is it is your fault for waiting so long.  Do not take it out on your family. Learn some great strategies to deal with procrastination in this blog post: How to Absolutely Overcome the Deadly Procrastination Habit.

8. Find other interests

Find a hobby that helps you feel relaxed and brings you joy. Not everything is about money. Volunteer for your favorite non-profit. Or join a service organization like the Rotary Club. I have greatly enjoyed meeting other business leaders and working with them on community service projects.

Neil Pasricha, bestselling author of The Happiness Equation, also advises in a recent blog post, that you know how you are using the time that you are not working or sleeping. Be very intentional about how you use that “third bucket.”

9. Find Time for Yourself

You cannot be so focused on the business or the family that you neglect yourself. Finding time for yourself is essential to your well-being and peace of mind. Taking time for yourself is not selfish. Rather it gives you time to refresh, refocus, and recharge. Find out more about this topic in this blog post: Finding Time for Yourself: “Me Time”

Conclusion/Call to Action

By following the 9 best steps that will improve work-life balance you may find that you have strengthened your relationship with your family as you grow your business. Those two aspects of your life do not have to be mutually exclusive. By following the steps discussed above, you can build a lifestyle and a business that you love.

How to Dramatically Increase Your Chance for Outstanding Success

How to Dramatically Increase Your Chance for Outstanding Success

How to Dramatically Increase Your Chance for Outstanding Success

How to Dramatically Increase Your Chance for Outstanding Success

Imagine if you knew the one extra ingredient that would dramatically increase your chance for outstanding success? What a difference it would make in your business, career, and life!  I have discovered from years of experience that the real secret to success lies in your willingness to go the extra mile. It is the extra effort…the extra work that will make the difference.

Wisdom from My 8th Grade English Teacher

I learned this secret many years ago. My 8th grade English teacher, Mrs. Young, told us to always “Go beyond the call of duty.” Her words of admonishment and encouragement have stayed with me over the years.

There are many influencers and gurus who often toot short-cuts and get rich quick schemes. Do not believe them.

Wisdom from Zig Ziglar

Nothing beats “Under promise, over deliver.” As the great salesman Zig Ziglar said, “If you are always willing to do more than what you get paid for, eventually you will be paid for more than you actually do.”

“The Law of Reciprocity”

Robert Cialdini, in his seminal book, Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion explains how when you do something for someone, it sets the stage for them to do something for you in return. Cialdini calls this “The Law of Reciprocity.”

When you go the extra mile for your client, you have set the stage for “The Law of Reciprocity” to start working. “The Law of Reciprocity” does not work for “normal,” “average,” or even “special” service or products.  It takes much more to trigger “The Law of Reciprocity.” You must do something “extraordinary” in today’s highly competitive market to gain an advantage.

Look at What Your Competitors are Doing

Look at what your competitors are doing. Then do something different. Your clients want and deserve something better than what everyone else is doing.  Start doing what your competitors cannot do or are not willing to do.

Get a new perspective on your business and then go the extra mile for your clients. Only then will “The Law of Reciprocity,” create a compelling reason for your client to want to reciprocate.  Dare to be different!

Conclusion/Call to Action

Contrary to what the experts say, there is no short cut to success. If you want to dramatically increase your chance for outstanding success, you must be willing to go the extra mile. It is lonely on that extra mile, but is where you will find the outstanding success that you dreamed of achieving.

How to Boost Your Productivity with Powerful Time-saving Strategies

How to Boost Your Productivity with Powerful Time-saving Strategies

How to Boost Your Productivity with Powerful Time-saving Strategies

How to Boost Your Productivity with Powerful Time-saving Strategies

Are you struggling trying to get everything done? At the end of the day are you wondering how you managed to get so little accomplished?  These and other time-management issues have plagued me and countless other entrepreneurs. Imagine learning how to boost your productivity with powerful time saving strategies! Today, Dexter and I will share with you how we manage to run our marketing business, real estate business, volunteer for several civic and charitable organizations, and still have time for our roles as husband, wife, father and mother.  In this episode of My Biz Dream Team: Opportunity Wednesday Training Series, Dexter and I share 6 powerful time-saving strategies that will dramatically boost your productivity. Listen in on our conversation.

1. Make appointments with yourself

If a project is important enough to do, it is important enough to add to your calendar. We have developed the powerful habit of putting everything on the calendar. I learned this from my years of practicing law. As a lawyer, you do not want to miss any deadlines. I run my entire life with my calendar.  If it is not on the calendar, it does not exist. This one powerful strategy can greatly boost your productivity.

2. Take a day off

Have you ever noticed when you plan a vacation that you get super productive? I know that I do. I want everything finished before I head to the airport. To give me that since of urgency, I schedule a day off to have lunch with friends and be a tourist in my hometown. Because I want to enjoy my day off, I am highly motivated to finish lagging projects. I am working up to scheduling a day off every week. What about you? Are you finding time for yourself?

3. Give yourself permission to say no

Sometimes I feel responsible for everything and find it difficult to say no.  Do you have the same problem? I came to the realization that if I try to accommodate everyone else, then I end up stressed and overworked. Instead, I have learned to say no to the new board position. I also learned to say no to doing household chores that are not the best use of my time.  Boost your productivity by making time for what is really important and give yourself permission to say no to everything else.

4. Take a break

Sometimes it helps to take a quick break to boost your productivity. Have you ever sat at your desk not accomplishing one thing? Then, it is time to take a break.  A few minutes reading a delightful book has a wonderful way of recharging your batteries and will boost your productivity when you return to work.

5. Give up control

For “Type A” personalities like me, I feel that I must have control over most situations. I had to learn that others could handle the situation. They might do it differently than I would have. But their job was good enough. You may need to learn, like I did, that it is okay to let go. Learn to give up some control and let others help. Your productivity increases as you learn to delegate to members of your team.

6. Practice focusing

Earlier this month, I wrote about focusing on a specific niche to grow your profits. Today, I am writing about focusing on one project at time. Multi-tasking is a huge waste of time. What should take 30-minutes could stretch into an afternoon of accomplishing nothing as you work on three different projects.  You will be amazed at how much you can boost your productivity you are once you begin to focus.

Conclusion/Call to Action

How are you spending your time? Are you accomplishing your goals? Learning how to boost your productivity with powerful time-saving strategies can help you reach goals must sooner.  Remember to:

  1. Make an appointment with yourself
  2. Take a day off
  3. Give yourself permission to say no
  4. Take a break
  5. Give up control
  6. Practice focusing

Following these six, powerful time-saving strategies will help you boost your productivity.

How to Quickly Identify Your Ideal Client

How to quickly Identify Your Ideal Client

How to Quickly Identify Your Ideal Client

How to Quickly Identify Your Ideal Client

How to quickly identify your ideal client is a crucial starting point for a new entrepreneur. Many new entrepreneurs skip this step. Failing to develop a vision of your ideal client can curtail your success before you get started. In this post, I will discuss three key questions that will help you to quickly identify your ideal client.

1. Is Your Product or Service for Everyone?

Too often you may think our service or product is “for everyone.”  I thought so at first. I knew that my system, experience, and expertise would help everyone who would just take time to try what I offered.  Does that sound familiar to you? But after a few months of trying to appeal to everyone, I realized that I was appealing to no one. I needed to focus on working people who wanted to get out of the rat-race and create an online business.

While it might be true that everyone could use my help, it is simply not possible for me and my brand to appeal to everyone. The same is true for you. Your prices might not be in line with what some can afford. Your branding might not resonate with others. Your story may not touch everyone with the same sense of urgency.

While both men and women might read and enjoy your content, you will find that your market is skewed heavily one way. Men and women are affected by stories and branding differently. What will appeal to a man may not generally appeal to a woman. Look around at some of the brands you buy. You will quickly see how they design their messages to appeal to either men or woman. They do not try to appeal to both.

It was only after I narrowed my focus to my true ideal client, did my perfect client find me.

2. What Goals Does Your Ideal Client Want to Achieve?

What does your client hope to achieve? How do your products and services help your ideal client to realize those goals? Is she trying to build a profitable crafting blog so she can stay home with her children? Or is he is working to create an online resource for muscle car fans?  If you do not know where they are going, you cannot help them get there.

3. Where is Your Ideal Client in the Journey?

Is your ideal client at the beginning or well along on the path? The manner that you speak, write, and market will be determined by your ideal client’s level of sophistication.  Are you teaching a beginning podcaster how to set up a hosting account on Blubrry? Are you helping a couch potato train for his first 5k?  Her level of commitment (and willingness to spend) is far different than a runner training for a triathlon.

You will not reach your market effectively if you do not know (1) exactly where they are and (2) what they need at this point in their journey.

Conclusion/Call to Action

As you work on how to quickly identify your ideal client, it is crucial to consider the following three questions:

1.     Is Your Product or Service for Everyone?

2.     What Goals Does Your Ideal Client Want to Achieve?

3.     Where is Your Ideal Client in the Journey?

As you conduct this analysis, (a) watch your interactions, (b) study the businesses of those who contact you for help, and (c) look at what the leaders in your niche are doing.  Soon you will have a clear idea of your ideal client.

Imagine walking through the mall. You come across two stores. One sells a variety of toys, groceries, clothes, magazines, and toiletries. The other store sells only chocolates. It specializes in selling only the finest Belgium and Swiss chocolate candies. You will not find chocolate cake or chocolate ice cream.

You may be thinking that the owner of the store with the wide variety of items is the smart business owner. In your way of thinking, the variety store attracts more customers because of the wide range of products. They may have more customers. But are the customers loyal. If one of those customers heard about a cheaper price for one of your items, they would go across town to buy it.

The owner of the specialty chocolate store can charge a premium for her products. There is a greater perceived value because of the specialization. This product is not for everyone.

Is your business offering a variety of products with no consistent theme? Or are you specializing in a few types of offerings? Are you positioning yourself as a leader in your niche? Do you offer premium products and services? What do your products and services say about your brand?

You can boost your profits when you limit your focus, because your clients will:

 1)   Be far more loyal,

2)    Spend more money per visit, and

3)    Rave to her friends about the valuable products and services that you offer.
